Their early records are basically punk rock played with precision and mastery... and long hair.

Napster killed Metallica.

Other than that... I think S&M rocks.

This may be the most wrong statement I've ever seen on these boards.  I had the pleasure of seeing Metallica 4 times in the 80's.  Twice with Cliff and twice with that other guy (never did like him)  The first 3 albums were the best IMNSHO, with Master of Puppets being the best of the best.  And Justice for all was OK but there was no Cliff :( and so no bass solo.  What Cliff did with that bass has never been topped.  He was the Hendrix of bass players.  I'm still amazed at the song writing ablities of those young alcohollica's back in the 80's.

Best concert night ever in my life was Wasp opening up for Iron Maiden, then off to Cardi's to see Armored Saint and Metallica (ride the lightning tour)  That was the best performace I ever saw Metallica give.  SO EFFING LOUD!!!  plus I was right there at the stage :D

ahhhh the days of good "classic" :D metal......

I love old Iron Maiden too, but it finally dawned on me that 80% of their songs are based on the same 3 notes.  So they all started sounding the same to me.  But Killers through Live after death were some kick ARSE albums.

Yup.

I musta skimmed over davidpt40's post or it just went in one eyeball and out the other, let's just say... I don't think you'll find many people to agree with ya ;)

I have some pics of the Big Day Out festival that Metallica headlined over here a few years ago. Might dig em out and post one or two...

btw. thanks for sorting out my CD's for tomorow, it's been a while since I broke the old stuff out  :)

You youngins!  I remember seeing Judas Priest in concert, twice.  Once as they opened for Kiss, and again as the headliner. THAT was metal!

metallica aren't talented enough to be Rush's opening act. To compare a bunch a power cord nitwits to talented musicians is rediculous.

Then they had the police confiscate everyone's camera.

rush good band,,but too much hype and rush couldnt open for metalica ether,,,they would get booed off stage,,lol, metalica at a rush concert,,,is like having deicide show up at a willy nelson concert,,it just aint going to happen or work out:D

you know at one time rush anounced it would be the heaviest band ever!! hehe i guess they never expected the metal munching 80s:) turned them into a talant band,,instead of heavy

i got respect for any band who has sold a album in stores,,some bands i dont like,,,but i still respect them and what they have accomplished

Rush has a good guitarist... the rest of it sounds like it's coming out of Funked's ass.

How you can like Iron Maiden but not like Metallica is beyond me.... you must be one of those RUSH fans...

Man, that's me to a tee!

Someone else mentioned Triumph and Triumph sounds good...but not the dog.  Rick Emmet!

[edit], I have no clue about Iron Maiden past about 1986 or so.  But loved them before that when in their prime!
