Cant decide between the 3 of em......

Is there actually much noticable difference between 4 & 5 megapixels?

Wife and I got a G3 a couple months ago... it's great!  There are full automatic/semi auto/full manual (hmm... :D ) modes, a nice big lens to work in lower light conditions, a hotshoe to mount an external flash, and that neat "twisty" LCD display.  Uses Compact Flash and has USB hookup.  Plus the 4x optical that Paxil mentions.  We got the G3 because I liked the bigger lens, the capability to mount an external flash, and the freedom to set my own shutter/aperture.  Otherwise probably would have got the S40, however my wife liked the "looks" of the G3 (even though it's a couple hundred more).

I was taking my pictures at 1280x1024 (M1 level I think), and took the last set at 1600x1280 which I think is the highest setting.  Taking them big always lets you reduce later on... enlarging stuff makes it look crappy.  If you have a memory card big enough, my opinion is to take the pics at the highest resolution.  But the next step down is probably ok also if you need more shots per card.

I guess it depends what you want.  The "S" series are pretty good in themselves (compact, hi quality) but if you want/need the external flash, and bigger lens you'll probably want the G3 out of the ones you mentioned.  Good luck!

Right then, the G3 it is.

Now here's the kicker, in Holland G3s are seriously expensive €700 ($800) or thereabouts.  In GB I've found one for £470 ($750) or in the US $600 ish but international delivery (plus import duty) is a squeak.

I dont suppose any of you fine people are flying to Amsterdam in the near future?
