How has online WWII Flight Sims enriched your life?
« on: May 09, 2003, 04:14:08 PM »
If not for flying online I would have missed the opportunities to meet some great folks. I’ll never forget camping with Daddog, Ghosth, Dhog and his wife at the airshow in Oshkosh, WI. I had to attend the AH Con 2002, to meet and spend time with about a dozen members of the 332nd Flying Mongrels. Hey, they’re my Broos!! I meet so many good people at the AH Con. :)

I also remember Fluffy before Sally of the FDB’s got hold of her. :(          :p

It’s also the phone calls. I remember calling Mongrels early on Saturday mornings and saying: “Listen to this!” Then holding up my cell phone as 3 B-25’s make a low-level pass. It’s also about getting home from work and getting a call from your squadmate.

Flying WWII flight sims isn’t about score or the game we play, it’s about the folks you meet.

Most definitely.  Since first starting AW in 1998, it and now AH became part of my life.  Since going to my first UK AW "Summer Meet" in 1998, I have not missed one of these annual events since, which have expanded during that time to full-blown Conventions, even if not quite as big as the US versions.  :)  I have made new friends at each one and can honestly say the online flying is so much better after meeting those flying with or against in person.  Some day I would also like to go to a US Con as there are so many people there I would like to meet in person;  people I have known for the last 5 years, in some cases, and others who I have come across more recently, but come to respect in many ways.  My life feels much richer for the experience of virtually flying with people from all corners of the world.  :)

I can certainly type faster with accuracy without looking because of flight sims such as AW and AH.

I haven't meet too many people from the AH community but have talked with them on voice.  Truely amazing individuals!

I did get to meet Harry Neimi (Harppa) from Finland!  What an incredible person he is!

I introduced Sour to WB and AH and now he flies circles around me.

I was hoping a bunch of Mongrels would go to the 2003 AH con but looks like no such luck.  I missed out on the 2002 con.

I enjoy squad night when the Dogs start signing on. You should hear our squad voice channel all the greetings.  One of the Dogs, TeeRex, really cracks me up when he gets on voice.  Everybody is Brother.  I cant wait to get back on-line!

You are right Ozark, because for me, it has alot to do with the people you interface with while on-line.  I can get killed every sortie with nothing to show for it, but if I am with my squaddies I know I am having fun.

Have a nice Day

:)

Meeting great people.

Getting to know the Finnish WW2 Pilots, inviting them to our meetings, getting friends with a lot of them.

Not possible without online flight sims. Thanks AW, WB, AH, WW2OL.

*wipes a tear*

Ghosth is da man.  He convinced me to get a home brewing kit.  :D

Heh, in a few days I'll post a pic of the latest batch of nut brown ale I just bottled.  I used a couple of empty Newcastle bottles I had lying around to see any similarities between my batch and the real thing.   You almost can't tell the difference (it's a little cloudy right now as the sediment is still settling. ;))
