Now I've completely hijacked this thread...sorry.

Funked, the term "bulletproof" goes over my head.  I can't figure out what you mean by that.

I found a link to some place that installs V8s into the early Zs.

Theres this guy that runs at our local autocross events and I need to get a pict of this car it's so great looking and looks like a blast to drive (more like a handful).

Its a 71 Opel GT, decked in full racing gear including full roll cage. Bummer is the guy will not let anyone drive it   What a drag..heheheh

Other then seening this car on the circut, whats the deal with theses car's? The guy doesn't talk much so finding things out about this car is a bit gray.  Were they popular in the stat's or were these shipped over by their owners?

Puke I mean they are reliable and very well engineered, especially compared to American cars of that period.

My last GTO with this Very same motor, and radiator, was rock solid for heat, it stayed at 200, sitting at iddle in 100 degree heat for 40 minutes or doing 80 on the freeway.

But the same combo in this Goat overheats at idle in gear and if I go ver 80 for long periods of time, part of that has to be the 3 speed auto and being at a way higher RPM, then the old goat was with the six speed.  I do not think the tranyy is doing it cause I am using an exsternal cooler for it.

I think part may be the fan, about an inch out of the shroud.

If I rev it or put it in park is does not ever heat.

Hmmm anoying and I don't have the cash right now for an aluminum radiator, I am hoping the fan Spacer will help I just need to get it in.

You want about a third of the fan outside of the shroud at idle.   check the timing... if it is too retarded it will overheat..

bad part about the Z is that the frame (or lack of) does not like the torque of the V8.. most guys reinforce everything adding even more weight.

Right now the whole fan is about an ich out of the shroud hehe

YOu think that could be it?

I am running about 9 and a hald advanced, the book says thats about right for a stock 400 and it runs good, and starts easy but pings just a bit at WOT.

I am hoping it is as simple as the fan shroud, I was also thinking of having the radiator rodded out, it sat for a long time in between cars.
