I had the pleasure of meeting Commissioner Tim Finchem two years ago.  He is a good guy and sums it up well:

"Over the years, unrestricted sponsor's exemptions have been controversial because if you give them to someone who's really not trying to play the TOUR, arguably, they're taking a spot from an individual," he said. "We've got a lot of good players. For a player to be frustrated is understandable. It's not anything new. Guys have complained a lot about tournaments (granting exemptions to) local pros.

"In this case, it's a woman. So it's a bigger deal. I think we should relax a little bit about this. Let it happen. Let her play golf. See how she plays. If you're a golfer and you love the game, it's pretty interesting stuff," he said.

I was under the impression she was hitting from the men's tees. No way she should be in the tournament unless she is.

She, and all of the other players, are hitting from the PRO tees.

Can you say "publicity stunt"
"My grandaddy always told me, "There are three things that'll put a good man down: Losin' a good woman, eatin' bad possum, or eatin' good possum."" - Holden McGroin

(and I still say he wasn't trying to spell possum!)

Sorenstam's feat most closely resembles that of Babe Didrikson Zaharias, the last woman to play on the PGA Tour. Zaharias played the 1945 Los Angeles Open and made the 36-hole cut before a final-round 79 eliminated her from contention.

Quote
Phil Mickelson, one of the PGA Tour's most prominent players, said he "definitely" expects Sorenstam to make the cut after 36 holes at the Colonial and said a top-20 finish is within reason.
"I'm as curious as anybody to see how the best LPGA player of today, and possibly all time, will play against the men," Mickelson said. "Colonial is a wonderful course for her to do it on."

Yep, just found that. Also read where the last time she played this course from the back tees she scored 75, not good enough to make the cut. We shall see.

It would be the most popular sport watched on TV if the LPGA got a younger flock of golfers in on the sport and they went topless!

The sponsors would be the ones to want a publicity stunt.  It's a brilliant move on their part.

PGA is not a mens leage. Its a pro leage. There will be no handycapping..If this is going to happen regulerly then the LPGA shoud remove its L and make that prize money available to the less fair sex as well..

Anika will miss the cut.  But so what?  I don't think she'll embarass herself.  And I buy into her reason - she wants to see how she stacks up against the men.  Who here if they were the biggest fish in a small pond wouldn't want to try finding a bigger pond?
