Man Who Used Stun Gun on Children Sent to Prison

ANGLETON, Texas (Reuters) - A Texas man who forced his 8-year-old stepson to walk five miles to school by zapping him repeatedly with a 100,000-volt stun gun was sentenced to two years in prison on Friday.
Theodore Moody, 27, was convicted on two counts of felony abuse on Thursday for using the stun gun on the eight-year-old boy and an 11-year-old stepdaughter. He was also convicted on one count of child endangerment for allowing his daughter, 2, and son, 3, to wander freely about his trailer park, wearing dirty diapers.

Moody, who lives in Brazoria County south of Houston, caught the attention of police last year after he punished the 8-year-old for missing the school bus by walking behind the boy on the five-mile journey to the school, repeatedly using the stun gun on him.

Police arrested Moody after he demonstrated the device on television news reports while wearing a cap that read "Marriage: the Leading Cause of Divorce." He also displayed a wooden paddle he had split on the boy's buttocks.

In the case of his stepdaughter, Moody was convicted of using it on her after she spilled hot water on the 2-year-old.

Stun guns are sold as a self-defense tool and designed to incapacitate attackers with an electrical charge. Police said Moody's stun gun delivered a shock akin to a bad bee sting.

Jurors asked to try the stun gun out during the trial, and returned their verdicts a few hours later.

Some humans are really a sick lot, I could go on for hours of horror stories my wife used to encounter when working the pediatric Burn Intensive Care unit here in Seattle, about 30-40% of all children in her unit were the victim of some sort of abuse.  Sad...

I don't understand it either Rip...bizarre.

Sammie was back in hospital on Friday, btw.  We had our carpets cleaned in the morning and it was raining hard all day.  The humidity was so high there was no way for the carpets to get dry.  When the kids came home I warned the wife that they were wet and to watch the kids when they got onto the tiled floor in the kitchen.  Less than 30 seconds later Sam ran into the kitchen in his bare feet and took a header onto the tiles.

By the time I got to where all the screaming was coming from he had a bump the size of half a golf-ball on his forehead.  I thought he had fractured his skull.  

They checked him out and he was fine...he was laughing and playing on the way to the hospital anyway...but we kept going, just in case.

Sammy wammy is earning his nickname...one contusion at a time.:)

Wow! Glad he's okay!  I earned by Parental Emergency Room Medal (just a joke) when my (now 4 yr. old)"Rooster"  ripped open his forehead on a dining room table, 7 external and 3 internal stitches and a strap down gourney later.....that was a couple years back.

Hey Curval:

I know that when I was a wee lad I broke one coffee table and one arm chair by impacting them with my head .  I also recall several times going under the green apron as the Doc stitched holes in my scalp due to iron steam radiators.

I wasn't clumsy.  Just hell bent for leather all the time.  

Hehehe, when they shaved my head in OCS, and exposed all the various scars, I gained esteem with my training battalion!

It's just a matter of degree. It's ok to hit little kids as long as you don't leave a mark, right?

I don't know why, but it does seem the last few "child horror stories" came out of Texas.

The ones that come to mind is the woman who drove her car into a lake with her kids in it, and the last one where a mother drowned her kids in a bathtub.

Not a hijack, but akin to the topic...

I was just talking to a friend of mine who sat on a jury that convicted a child molester.

I've honestly given this alot of thought, and you might be surprised at what I'm about to say.

I can honestly promise, swear even, beyond any shadow of a doubt, if anyone harmed my daughter (Kidnapping, Molestation, murder), I would honestly find a way of killing that person in the most initmate way possible. Is this a psychotic tendency? I'm not talking a sniper shot outside the courthouse. I'm talking up close, personal, slit his throat so deep, his head nearly comes off murder. I would want to feel his warm blood on my hands. I would want to watch him beg for his life as I tortured him to death.

I hear about these cases on the news and wonder why I seem to be the only parent with these impulses. I would go to my execution with a smile on my face, and my victims blood on my hands.

*shrugs*

Sometimes, I scare myself.
