Army sunglasses?
« on: May 21, 2003, 04:35:12 PM »
I've seen many U.S. Army troops wearing those 'terminator' style sunglasses both on the news and locally.  Are these standard issue now?  I must say that I don't like them.  I think they look unprofessional and they make me think that the troops wearing them are snowboarders rather than trained soldiers.

Snowboarders always look cool in the desert.

don't have an answer for yah dave.. just an opinion.

sunglasses on a soldier are to protect his eyes and improve visual resolution. Not look cool.

Soldiers buy their own sunglasses.  I believe the only requirement is they must be black framed.

At least that what my son told me, and he is a Paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne. It might be just a requirement of the 82nd, but I would suspect it is more probably an Army wide thing.

What's the matter with our soldiers trying to look cool? Personally I wish they were allowed to dress like Raiders fans or the villans in the Mad Max movies complete with spiked shoulder pads and face paint. Now THAT would be cool.

Gargoyles were issued during Desert Storm. The kind they gave us provided some ballistic protection too.

The troops aren't there for a fashion show. They have a much bigger task than that. Perhaps you missed it. The enemy killed by those troops won't care at all what kind of glasses they were wearing.

Mav, Don't you wish you could have worn a mohawk haircut, face paint and spiked shoulder pads when you were a policeman? I guarantee you, nobody would have argued with you over a ticket. ;)

Actually the helmet, dark glasses, really tall boots and the black gloves kept arguing down......... ;)

The helmet kind of kept the hair covered anyhow.

I very seldom had much of a problem, most folks were pretty darn reasonable and knew they screwed up. Only those "special few" got a "have a nice day" send off.  :D

Explain the black berets then.  Purely a fashion move.  And what about the Navy's uniforms? They look like disco clown suits.
