In real life, can Me-163's rocket engine be turn-off or change throttle settings  while in flight?

Sometimes the engine would have a nasty habit of exploding  when trying to restart it in flight.

Not according to the Test pilot in the article I posted above....

RO: engines were reliable and relatively safe and were adjusted so as to shut down in the event of an imbalance in fuel flow. If there was a problem in engine performance, it related to shutdowns, not explosions. The only instances of engines blowing were in early testing of prototypes or when they had been damaged in battle or by accident.

I'm glad Rudy dispelled all the myths about exploding Komets.  Only the prototypes had problems which is to be expected.

Heck, even the new F-22 crashed a prototype or two.

I have always read that the Eng was kept on at full power because there had about 5 to 10 incidents where small amounts of fuel had been left in the chambers because the pilot was messing with the throttle and IT DIDN"T CAUSE THE PLANE TO EXPLODE, but it had stirred up the fuel while landing on the runway and had ended up pushing the plane into the ditch or flipping it over multiple times while it was trying to stop. so it was sugested that during flight the plane never be taken off full throttle.
