Motherboard question.....
« on: May 22, 2003, 11:40:26 PM »
Anybody ever use a K7S5A Pro with the onboard LAN?

I just built a new system using this board but I am having a problem getting the LAN to work.  I have the connection configured exactly like my old system, but I cant access the internet at all?  I am gonna try to get new drivers tomorrow and maybe stick a real NIC in it and see if I can get that to work.

Anyone have any ideas?

That board has ALL sorts of issues, I bought one because I was being a cheapass and never again will I deal with ECS.  NO RMA support, seems my board would loose its bios settings every few weeks.  Go to http://www.amdforums.com for best assistance.

Thanks Pfunk.  Found a thread over there already that gives me an idea.  I am gonna call my ISP tomorrow and see if they need to do anything on their end since I am hooking up a new machine.

If your using XP you shouldnt have to do anything.  XP configures all your IP if you set it to automatically get IP and DNS.  But if you want to do it yourself for servers or you have multiple IP's I guess you might wanna give em a call.

The thing is I am using Win 98 and I have my old machine configured to obtain IP addresses automatically and all that just like my ISP told me to.  I set the new machine the same way and it wont connect to the internet.  I dont understand why one machine works with that config and the other doesnt.

Problem all fixed up.  At the suggestion of a squadmate, I cycled the power on my cable modem off and back on when I connected it to the new machine and it works just peachy.

LET IT BE KNOWN FROM THIS DAY FORWARD.... SLING GOT THE CORRECT SOLUTION TO HIS PROBLEM IN THE FDB FORUM AND NOT THE HARDWARE FORUM.  YOU SHOULD ALL BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELVES.
