McCartney became the first Beatle to sing inside the Kremlin last night, treating President Vladimir Putin to an impromptu version of Let It Be before singing to thousands of Russians in Red Square.

Putin, who confessed to being a Beatles fan in his youth, told McCartney the band had been an inspiration during Soviet times, despite Kremlin efforts to discourage Western music.

Asked whether he had listened to the Beatles when contacts with foreign music were discouraged by the communist leadership, Putin said: "It was very popular, more than popular. It was like a breath of fresh air, like a window on the outside world."

no, but 8 years after the Beatles became known, the Kremlin created the Beatlinskis as an original concept to combat the Beatles. :)

You might remember some of their tunes:

"Yesteryear" : yesteryear, all our glory seemed so far away, now it looks as though it's there to stay

" Working the Fields Forever" : let me take you down cause I'm going to, be working the fields, nothing is real, working the fields forever

" Hard Days Rights" It's been a hard day's rights, but I've been supressed like a dog..

"Eight Bread Lines A Week" : Ooo I need my bread girl, yes you know it's true.....

"A Day in the Strife" : I read the state controled news today oh boy

"Golden Blunders/ She came in through the OutHouse Window/ Mean Mr Mustard Gas" You never give me no money, you only give me your commie papers.......

"Sunken Submarine" : we all dwell in a sunken submarine, sunken submarine sunken submarine
