Uhhhhh... What!
« on: May 25, 2003, 08:44:01 AM »
When I try and open AH, two errors comes up. One says a  device attached to AH is not functioning, and the second says AH is link to a file named DSOUND.DLL.12 and it is a missing export.

Anyone know wtf this means and how I could fix it?

Try reinstalling DirectX.  That DSOUND error message relates to DirectSound.

You need to install DX8.0 or later.  The message you are getting is due to an earlier version of DirectX.  You can get the lastest version at http://www.microsoft.com/directx

well I just had to reinstall windows so the version of DX I has was 7.1.... but I upgraded it to 8.0 so I could play AH and I got that error, so I upgraded again to 9.0 and it still won't work.

Re-install your video drivers, and make sure you have the latest sound drivers.  If you have on-board sound on the MB its a must to update them. Next run the dxdiagnostics (Type "dxdiag" in the Run Box on your start menu)

Carry out 3d and sound tests. When in the sound test reduce your sound acelleration one notch left (reduce it) This is a must for SBlaster cards and on-board sound chips for AH.

Your error is a directX sound error so look for updated drivers for your sound card/or/onboard sound. Once you update them always re-install directX again. If onboard sound make sure you get the correct drivers for your particular audio chip/make. Most use the codec AC97 but are not necessarily all from the same manufacturer.

I checked on Microsoft and hp's websites and they don't have any new drivers for it.

FYI: Got Windows ME

What does Control Panel / System, / Device Manager have listed under the Sound and game controller entry for your sound?

If it is, then my advice is to get a pci sound card, onboard sux

Also, more info on system specs would be helpful for all that want to help ya w/your problem
