I agree.

 ..

 But how??

When flaps over their maximum deployment speed, they get a random chance of ripping out or getting jammed? With the probability increasing as the airspeed gets higher?

 ..

I've seen what a 'leniency on flaps' can do in IL-2 - instant speed breaks. It practically made overshoots impossible.

I remember HT saying that if they don't do it the auto-retract way, they're going to have to make the flaps be damaged over certain speeds.

I think there's a certain level of harshness to be maintained, when flaps are used over speeds it should not be.

obviously dont let flaps survive too high speeds just like for ex. the elevators on 110 rip off at 500+.

o/t the 190s and 109s in FB have one notch of useable flaps >200mph??

just make the flaps rip out when 100mph above their safe speed , and make them buffet the plane severely between their safe speed and the 100mph over the safe speed rip-out limit.

All I know is for the P-38 this fairy feature is killing it, as it is the ONLY plane in the entire set that relies on its flaps exclusively for survival, and when you have your flaps retract on you while you're pulling hard (and flaps out MEANS the 38 is turning, and HARD) on the stick, flap retracts and the 38 will either spin or it will cause you to lose angles and gets you killed. And all because the stupid flap retracted when you went 1 mph above the limit even though you were pulling so hard the speed went down 80mph below the retract speed less than half a second later.

The cure for this problem is easy, this is what i do.
extend flaps, wedge beer bottle in tight.
(it takes two so drink fast )this holds flaps in position past auto
retract speed, but when you go too fast the bottles break and
your flaps dont get torn off :D  :D

Treat flaps exactly the same as gear. How hard can that be to program??
