P38s flight model........

I am no expert in aviation but since the P38 has contra rotating propellers doesnt that get rid of torque?

I have found that in the p38 theres always a slight torque to the left. I fly it without the combat trim on and even when taking off from the runway one can see a slight almost undetectable yaw to port. I then have experimented with turns and no matter which way i turn it always stalls and rolls to port.
I then have tried stalling in level flight (low speed keeping nose level) and even then it yaws to port as it stalls when it should just stall nose down. Finally I tried stallling it when vertical and even then it stalled and yawed to port.......
(Hint:- Does it have something to do with the fact that the autofuel management burns fuel from the right outer tank first ???)

Also whenever i lose one aileron there is a tremendous loss of lateral control. I agree that should happen but in every other plane the loss of control is not so severe. A p38 with 1 missing aileron rolls slower than even a 109.......Is this a bug with the flight model????

Sounds like you don't have your rudder/aileron trims set to neutral.  There is no torque in the P-38L.

Actually, the right propeller (in conjunction with the P-38 flying in the northern hemisphere) does exert slightly more force due to gravitational assist from the spinning planet... for the same reason that water spins the opposite direction down the drain in the northern vs southern hemispheres.... something to do with Coriolis effect I think....

I think you should just check to make sure all flight surfaces are in neutral position and try taking off with minimal fuel on Auto Climb and then manual climb to see if there is a difference. Try it with external fuel tanks and see if there is a difference there as well...

You probably nailed his problem in the head.  If you have external stores loaded on the P-38 and use any of the auto-trim setting and pickle your ordinance, the plane will be out of trim because the auto-trim compensated for the external stores that were loaded.

the props are counter rotating but the engines are not , they both rotate in the same direction, what you feel is a reaction to the rotating parts of the eng, (crank, flywheel,etc), the eng block(and air frame) will want to rotate in the opposite direction from the rotating parts.

But completly wrong. Try it and see how easy it is to reverse the spiraling direction down the drain.

But I'm having a small crusade to outroot that stupid water-down-the-drain thing...
I've actually heard from people that traveled Africa, that locals in a village that lies on latitude 0, run a show for turists - they take a bucket with a hole in the bottom and show that the water spiral counter-clockwise, then walk 30m "crossing" the equator and show that the water spiral clockwise...

all but a very few 38s engines were opposide they acctualy made a opposite turning engine for them .

some of the lend lease ones both turned the same direction. but the props did also.
