That was Joan Collins, by the way.  As in "Dynasty" Joan Collins, the superstar actress that nobody's heard from recently.

Absolutely the ultimate.  The pace was good, the strategies used by the captains were good, the camerawork, lighting, special effects...all working together and producing a great visual story.

Even better was the film "The Enemy Below" with Robert Mitchum, which was the basis for "A Balance of Terror".

TNG and DS9 sucked so bad Hoover tried license them to be motors in there vacuums!

God how I hate all the new startrek crap........ that French captain is such a puss!!!! Kirk would kick his bellybutton then sleep with his women, well if he had a women, and wasn't well so lame!!!

"Balance of Terror"  Was by far the best one of the first series!

And all you TNG and DS9 dorks, don't bother to flame me, I will still be right, and you will just be proving you're dorks!!:D

My 2nd favorite episode.  What really made that story work was Commodor Decker.  We had action, we had strategy, we had space ships duking it out, we had dramatic tension and we had a captain who may or may not be insane, creating fantastic character conflicts.  Decker and the Doomsday Machine was Ahab and The White Whale.

Funny how we get so wrapped up in the action of "what" that we just accept Kirk's explanation of the "why".  How did he know it was activated by an ancient civilization that had gone to war and ended up being consumed by its own Weapon of Mass Destruction?  Makes an interesting parallel to The Cold War and the Bomb.

hell.. can't go too wrong there

Eeg Pla Nista!

Anybody else notice that it seemed a lot like "Planet of the Apes", in that we have spacemen coming to a planet like Earth, where "our side" has been destroyed and replaced by apes/Communists?

I almost forgot about the WW2 airplane that kept strafing the young lieutenant!  That scene was snatched straight from my subconscious.  Too bad the machines didn't snatch any of my other fantasies . . . with Yeoman Rand. :D

Wlf, the Enterprise C's captain was a woman. Supposedly was the Enterprise that saved a klingon outpost from a romulan attack. The "C" didnt survive the battle. In TNG they popped Lt Yar into that Enterprise (lame).

Aside from that, I rather liked the concept of the original Enterprise (where the guy from Quantum Leap was capt). For once there was no goody-goody federation morals (maybe thats why I kinda liked sisko in DS9.. he poisons a maqui planet's atmosphere to lure a maqui out of hiding and punches Q's lights out  in another episode :D ).

Yeah but all that crap with the Pa wraiths and toejam was a load of tripe.  The religion thing was what spoiled DS9.  Anything's better than Voyager though.

The DS9 remake of the Tribbles Episode is still among my favorites.

Many favorites in Voyager (really enjoy The Dr) and TNG ("The First Duty", etc)

OIO I know.. but I think you may have missed my point.

there was no star trek past the original...
no fluffy 'new' generation, no ds9 soap opera,
no woman captain and certainly no Scott Bayowhatever.. cripes.

The first, the original, the corney, but the best.

no PC.. that's the best part of the original.
I'm sick to death of PC this and PC that.
