Was just thinking... would it be good if HTC released a special version of AH in which ONLY gv's and field acks are enabled for them and that only lets them have TWO comm channels, channel 50 and channel 400 (50=country channel, 400=ALL channel).

What for? Well, was thinking that if this special version was for free, we would have much more players slugging it in gv's. Would also be good for PR purposes and the word would spread around faster.

These "free players" in gv's would not have access to the paying player's channels, so no spam from non-subscribers. If a paying costumer wants to talk to the gv's below, he can tune to Ch 50. and channel 400 would be the free guys equivalent of Ch1 (but only for them).

Besides, wouldnt it be better to have real humans manning the a-a defenses? Paying players can still grab a gv and treat themselves to targets!

Minor modifications to field acks, like making AI ack be single .50 cal and the manned acks be the 37mm's and 20mm's.... would dramatically increase the game's enjoyment.

Lol interesting, it would have an us versus them feel.

Do you think people would play the GVs even for free?

Never.

The bandwidth/network is already struggling with 200 people- PAYING people. You simply can't throw in a bunch of freebies with no money to pay for more bandwidth.

Unless you like shooting at planes that are more like squids.

Unless there were spawn limits on Ostwinds it would be terrible. If they could do something control how many of which units could be spawned at each spawn point, then it could be fun.

I don't see how it would be better for PR than what we already have: a two week free trial with full access to the game. To get more PR you have to get the demo into more people's hands. This is a niche market, and doesn't really try to go out and grab the casual gamer. Most of us here have an interest in WWII aircraft. I have several friends who all tried AH, and none of them stuck around. They just don't have the interest in WWII aircraft.

It might give us more manned ack and GVs as some people might really enjoy that more than paying $15/mo to fly.

So it really comes down to what you're trying to do. Get the game in the hands of more people that enjoy this niche or get the game into the hands of more people period? (I don't think I made sense here, but this is what happens when you're trying to get outta here and go home! hehe)

well, I think itd be fun to have more ground targets and more HUMANS shooting at me with acks instead of AI.

The 2 week thing could be replaced with this feature. After all, H2H already allows them to see the game's features... free access to the ground units and acks would give them the chance to see how the overall MA is like.

I did say it was a crazy idea

actually i like this idea alot. get rid of ai ack and let free accounts man ack. but you gotta pay to fly.

skurj you are messed.. how in hell did you come up with this idea..

i do kinda like it though.

and maybe they could be forced to read the "game manual' as they tracked along from spawn point to nme base

course whels would just vulch the spawn point anyway (no offense whels, just you were the last guy i saw with 35 kills in a sortie

)

i think your idea is a bit too specific, but if developed this limited/free to open/pay system might have some dang good potential

If HT implements more GV and WWII onlines continues in thier current direction you will have your ground war and HT will have more paying customers. This is the best sim going, those poor tankers just don't kow it yet. BTW speaking of GV, why do we have vehical Perks point? Something big rumbling this way soon?

sounds like a workable idea to me but bandwidth must be an isuue.layely it seems to me the numbers have increased and there has been a notable increase in warping.
whether this is due to the Net in general or the increased load on AH servers i dont know.

Oh yeah, my biggest beef with your suggestion Tac...
What happens when the Arena I HELP PAY FOR is full cuz the freebie ZZ K11LTJaZ squad is having squad night?

Bandwidth costs money, freebie players don't pay for said bandwidth, and i doubt very much that more GV's would attract enough paying players to support the bandwidth required.

Now call it beta, permit no more than 50 of em in any arena at one time (team balancer in effect), and after 3 months (when they hooked) make it 9.95 a month for gv's and full rate to fly...
