Anthrax (the band)
« on: May 29, 2003, 01:51:28 AM »
Have they turned to crap now that Dan Spitz has left ? I mean after Belladona left they still rocked, they were still unmistakably Anthax, they just didn't sound as good.  After hearing their latest release that was produced without Spitz I get the idea that he must have been the preeminent factor in their song writing . It is Anthrax by tradmarked logo only now. I wouldn't pay for it, and I stopped downloading the mp3s after the third one.

ya,,there not as good as they use to be,,,not as heavy,,,only a few songs on each of there new cds are worth lising to again,,,a few rippers but you have to searce the cd for them,,lol..they have lost there drive thats for sure,,,,,they almost did a vanhalen,,,,,lost there singer and now they try to hard to make a good cd with out there original singer

there is only one band who got away with changing singers in history and still making new albums that sell great,,,and thats ac/dc ,,just because there original singer died,,lol

Yep, even though I liked their first album after their old singer Joe Belladonna left, it wasn't as good . Now Dan Spitz has left and the music just isn't even worth the time it takes to listen to it . I think anthax peaked with Persistence of Time, I realize now that it was probably because of Spitz and Belladonna . Oh well Belladonna's got his own band now, which got better reviews than Anthrax's last album, from what I've read. And Danny Spitz is teaming up with Nicko McBrain from Iron maiden, and Megadeth's base player, they haven't got a singer yet. Would be awesome if they could get Belladonna . I just hope he doesn't try to make it a "jesus loves you" album, now that Spitz has converted to christianity . We all know how well christ and heavy metal mix .

Oh, and I think some bands have actually gotten better after changing singers. Iron Maiden and Metal Church come to mind .

hehe well bruce is who made iron maiden,,and all the good tunes are done by him of cource,,and once they changed him out,,they never had a big hit again,,,lol,,kinda like most bands who change there singers in the middle of careers,,they just cant seem to get back on top or atleast in the runings,,lol,,and by the time they put bruce back in it was too late,,and they have run out of idea's,i still would like to see them live

thats what i was getting at with ac/dc they mite of lost there singer,,,but they still get on the top ten every time they make a new album

Yeah I agree. I was just making a point that sometimes bands improve when they change singers. Actually now that I think about it, Belladonna didn't sing on Anthrax's first albut "Fistfull of Metal". Bruce's first album with maiden was # of the beast. But Killers and their first album was popular too. Joe Belladonna's band is just called Belladonna I think . Once a band establishes a  signature sound that everyone is familiar with changing singers is usually a bad thing .

Jeeze we need a music forum or something .

Paul Di'Anno was Iron Maiden's first singer and he had a style all his own.  "Iron Maiden" and "Killers" are great albums that I don't think Bruce could have done better than Paul did.  Remember Tomorrow, Murders In The Rue Morgue, Prodigal Son, Women In Uniform, all great songs that were better suited for Paul.  On the other hand, I can't imagine Paul trying to pull off Run To The Hills or The Trooper...
