as said in another post "by trademark only"

have you heard this drivel "st. anger" yet?

i heard it for the first time last night on the way home from work....

words escape me. i am thinking of the most gigantic word for SUCK or CRAP in my vocabulary.. none are fulfilling the bill.

the closest i have come is:

supersuckbagofS***retardedscumbucketwasteofradiowavesearmelting garbage i have ever heard.

Indirectly... Napster killed Metallica.

Directly... it was Ulrich.

Its almost as if they're trying to get back to their punk-rock roots.   Funny because they don't have any.   Sounds like Punktallica to me.   I liken the mix to a basement made demo with the drums completely drowning out everything else at times.  Where the heck do the harmony backing vocals come from?  They are branching out in a very strange direction that breaks no new ground.

That song suks hard. It's almost like they all just got out of rehab and can't write sober. I was shocked at how crappy the song, especially the lryics were.

metallica used to be so good, great lyrics.

Hopefully it's just one crappy song.

Yikes what a stinker. The production is so early eighties (tinny sounding drums with that god awful double-kick way up in the mix, chorusy guitar, burried vox). I've always thought they sucked... but this one is interesting in that it seems like they're really reaching to get back to their roots.

Why, I have no idea... For one thing, they're gonna lose radio... so what do they get in return? They're going for credibility, which they aren't going to receive. After being a made-for radio joke for so long and certainly after the Napster BS, whatever cred they had is long past. This sure isn't going to do it for them. Why they think it's even a good idea to try for it is beyond me.

Sounds like a demo tape.  I hope the rest of the album is much, much better.

Nah I got the whole album last week, listened to it on my computer and then put it straight into the recycle bin where it belongs.

Serious disappointment. Sounds like everyone rode them so hard to come out with an old school album. It just sounds like a weak attempt. And what is with this silly Nu-Metal rap for a solo (Korn)  and chorus. Speaking of which I haven't heard one solo yet outta the 4 traqcks I've heard so far. Not even a simple hide behind the wah wah Black Album type. Why is Kirk even in the band anymore? If this was any other band this album would thrown to the curb, only selling cause who they once where. Sounds like they are burned out of ideas.

Oh Jesus this new metallica album is horrible!  Black Album, Load and Reload were good.  This one sucks.

Very few bands that have given up their demons (drugs - booze included) sound the same they did.

Metallica is no different, although it began with the Black Album (I still like that album a lot though), went down with Load (few good songs), then they smacked us with that ReLoad crap.

I knew I wasn't going to be buying their new album long before it came out, their MTV Icon show confirmed it all.

Its unfortunate, but atleast theres still all of the good old stuff to listen to.

Can't expect many bands to pump out CDs/music with the same style/vigor/intensity as their early days- no band that I know of has accomplished that... and certainly none that have been around for 2 decades.

My 2cents.

The Beatles  did it right, bowed out on top.

It's wierd to realise that John Lennon was only 30 when the Beatles broke up, Paul McCartney was only 27 or 28....they had there whole lives ahead of them after establishing themselves as the measure for any band after them.

Think of all they acomplished in about 8 years time, then look at the Bands that stay around for 20 years and still don't measure up to the same level.

I'll buy it and give em a shot.  Got a $15 Barnes&Noble gift card to use anyway.

I still can't tell if it's just not the metallica I'm used to, or if it just isn't something i like.

And I'm not gonna download it... that just sounds like beggin for trouble ;)

I liked the song St. Anger on the radio tonight. Not great, but it will get some play here.
