1) It means some one wants to come along in your plane as either a gunner or observer. Being an observer is a good way to learn from the experts; and most will happily take a passenger along.
2) He's rude, not you. ALWAYS ask before sending a join request, because that "join" box pops up right over your gun sight, right handy if you're in a furball (not!)
3) Response: Either hit the "accept" button, or type ".accept "handle""; or hit the decline button. You don't have to give a reason or explain.
4) to try it yourself, type ".join "handle""; but ask first.
5) As an observer, you can see the pilot's guages and flap positions etc,; and you can film it too; tho' film's a bit buggy
P.S. you never have to ask Shane; he always accepts passengers, just go straight ahead and send the "join"
