Sounds like WW2OL

I am new to Aces High and am only a peon, But i have played aw, aw3, ww2ol, janes ww2, wb, ms cfs, etc. and this is my 2 cents.

If i am correct in my understanding from reading various post this AH2 setup sounds alot like ww2ol,

i have seen many flight sims that are great suddenly turn into crap and die as is ww2ol in the process of doing,  ww2ol advertised much more than it actually provided in its bbs before the game was released.  

i know you folks have reasearched and know very well what you are doing, i guess my question is what if the mission arena fails and many lose interests especially if its based on rank and removes the squad chain of command?

we own one more arena, nicer graphic and som other improvements.

Stil will be MA, DA, SEA, CT, TA + ToD

all the rest depends from players, not HTC.

The only question is.......which one will be the primary source of entertainment, AH:TOD or AH:Classic.


Personally I hope AH:TOD takes off big time, I see multiple missions all over a massive map being run with 500 pilots spread around.  

I just hope it doesn't turn out like the CT........maybe 30 people playing on a saturday night.

according to some of the beta testers ww2ol has been dieing since early beta or something like that...and the setup will probably be nothing like that as ah is focusing on mainely the air-war part of it while ww2ol bf1942 etc... try to simulate the entire thing...wich just cant happen because everyone wants to do there own thing andrefuses to help the "cause"

IMHO it will  be more popular, than CT, but less popular, than MA.

At least WW2OL had an awesome idea, i think main problem was working all the servers from various places in unison.

graphics arent that great tho, but still good idea.

Aces High may work better considering the talk of using plenty AI, but we'll see.

would be great if there could be a sniper/recon unit employed somehow:D \

wwporkonline's idea wasnt new or even that great. They really havent done that great of a job putting it out either. It sux.

Ah2:toD wont need large numbers or 500 folks ingame. All you need is enough guys on each in each mission to have fun.

say theres just 80 guys ingame in a mission.

10 bomber pilots = 30 bombers + 24 ai bombers = 54 planes.

30 escorts

opposing 25 190s

15 109s

Tell me that mission wont be a kick bellybutton mission.

Bombers must kill xx% of target xx

escort must ensure xx number of bombers survive

The defenders must kill xx number of bombers or stop xx% of te target being destroyed.

In this case you would have about 100 airframes battling in out in 1 mission.

But even with 50 guys like the ct manages. You could still have a decent mission.

But if no one flies in todyor theres 1 or 2 guys per mission it will be come the milkrun arena. We will already get guys who wont join missons with large number and wait to join one where they are the only human player. This way they will get rank with out risking death. It will happen just like milkrun tards happen in all the other arenas.

There will be dweebs and folks who exploit the game.  I wont be flying in ToD worrying about the tards or dweebs. I dont care how others get their rank. I just wanna have fun. I want to come online pic a mission fly it have a good fight and call it a night.

Maybe some will start a player/squad registry so groups of guys can coordinate their flying times. This way we can some what assure ourselves that we find good missions.

WW2OL's ground war is a bit of fun. However it seems to be devolving in a 'camp' or 'be camped' style of war. Although they are working to change this. It also suffers from 'cheating', clipping due to poorly written graphics engine, speed hackers due to the poorly written netcode.

The Air side of it is just awful though. The FM's are wierd, the 110 flops around like a half dead fish. The damage models are calculated using an old gypsy out the back of CRS. Framerates drop to low teens when theres 4 or 5 aircraft around (Atholon 2100XP+, 1Gb RAM, GF3). And perhaps the most decisive part in screwing things is the netcode has no biased, so its not unusual for the aircraft 50 yards in front of you to simply disappear at times.

Playing ww2ol helps you see the quality in AH.

Hmmm. I'll believe that when I see it. I give you 30 minutes .... an hour tops ... and you'll be crying about opposing pilots not flying the way you want them to .... just like in the CT.

Oh ... and you left out a very interesting feature of AH:TOD (one I've promoted for years): 24/7 AI combatants. Not just resupply drones but fighters, bombers, ships and tanks (at least I hope it includes ships and tanks). Didn't Pyro and HT allude to there being a server controlled front fighting at all times of the day and night? So even when the arena hits it's doldrums during "off hours" .... the "war" should progress and solo milkrunning will become a thing of the past. Well, maybe. Hopefully.

Of the few times I even found you in the ct I have either killed you or ran 50 miles. Now I dont care how you fly or what you fly. Just let me know your intentions at the merge and I wont bother. If part of your smart flying style is to bore folks to death well it works.

I dont understand what you are talking about flying my way. I hear the runners say they are flying "smart". So I figured they would mean it. I dont care about "scores" or kd or any of that. I just like to have "fun". I stay in afight until I have no fuel or ammo or am dead. I die alot. But just for ****s and giggles I checked your kd and wow its at .5. Now I ask you since you obviously dont care about getting killed and even with your "smart flying" you havent been that "good" at it whats the point?

The only thing you get kills in is a panzer.

you get 2.5 kills an hour I get near 10.

What you do just doesnt seem fun, smart, or even effective. However, thats all on you. If thats what you like go for it. But when I fly into 2 F4us who are faster and have alt and all they do is a shallow dive and run for 15 min I'll call ya on it, then land and go elsewhere. If theres no fights I'll leave.

Now you cant seem to understand that there are more types of "fighting"styles then turning and BnZ. Urchin is a great teacher and if you care to learn he will help ya. I would offer but I really dont care.

So spend your ct time cruising the map with 1 fight every 30 min or so. But you do know the CT is the "Combat Theater". Thats the only reason I fly there. Your type of timidity is why alot of folks quit flying there. The fun factor just isnt high enough to keep their attention.
