Bomber guns active on the runway
« on: August 03, 2000, 11:05:00 PM »
Am I just imagining things or did it used to be that the bomber gunners were disabled on the runway?

With the addition of ground vehicles, I don't see why a B26 (or B17 for that matter) should be able to spawn over and over and over again and just sit there shooting at an M3.  I know all the stuff about "take down the bomber hangar(s)" and "cap the field" but I just don't understand why bombers should be able to do this.  At least with a fighter, you have to move your plane around to get a possible shot, but in a bomber?  You can sit there and train more than one gun on a target and destroy it in 3-4 seconds or less, more than enough time between spawns before a vulture can take you out.

What I don't understand even more is that any Joe Schmoe can create a "squad" and practice this tactic.  It's sad.

Then again, who am I to say what is right or what is wrong?  C'est la vie.  Thank you for listening to my rant.

Fury

<<edit>> I should have put this on the Gameplay forum, sorry.

<<edit>> My apologies for the insult I threw at your squad.  You know who you are.  Even though it was done in private and not on ch. 1, I should have logged before I sent it, not after.

As far as I know.. turrents are disabled in buffs till the damn thing gets airborne.

However; trike geared a/c like the B26 and the P38 have the nasty advantage of simply turning their noses toward the troops.... and banging away with the fixed nose guns.

Fury,
Its as Hangtime says.  I read your post and went immediately online to test it.  What you must have had happening was a B-26 driving around firing its fixed nose guns at your troops.  When I tested it I could not fire the guns on any turret from the B-26 or B-17.  Once again, as Hangtime said, trike planes such as the P-38, B-26 or, should we ever get it, the P-39 have it easy when killing troops becaus their guns are level instead of pointing up like on a tail dragger.  Unfortunately because there is both a fighter and a bomber that can do this both hangers must be shut down before it is safe to make a capture attempt.

(B-25 will also have this advantage.  So will Me262 and Meteor)

4 HE shells, two on each ammo bunker, will end your buff problems REAL quick.

How about a seperate bunker for Hispano shells? I mean compaired to the 75 HE round they are mini-nukes

Fury,  non-fixed bomber guns are disabled on the ground.  (They have been since mid-beta.)

I wasn't online last night to witness what you were talking about Fury, but it seems you are talking about my squad.  If so, you seem to be implying that our squad practices this tactic as if it is normal.  This is totally incorrect.  The THUNDERBIRDS have been around since version .37 and are well respected within the AH community.  Wolf37, tom24, ao2, and I have all been playing AH from the month it was released to the present.  Many of our other members have also been around since beta under different names.  Your post is insulting to me to say the least.  Obviously you have confused us with some other squad, because you say "What I don't understand even more is that any Joe Schmoe can create a "squad" and practice this tactic. It's sad."  If you look in the General Discussion forum you will find a post from Frenchy saluting our squad for a great fight last tour.  Obviously we would not have been so honored had we continually vulched them on takeoff.

Now to the point of discussion.  I would be willing to wager that 90%+ of the players here would try to destroy an m3 any way they could if their field was treatened.  Can you honestly say that if I was near your maproom with an m3 that you would not try to stop me?  I doubt it.

Since I was not online last night, I can not be 100% sure you are refering to my squad.  If you are not, please ignore my above post.

hello all:

well Fury, i was on last night and i know for a fact it is I and my squad you are talking about. well to start with, yes i will defend a field any way I have to. and you can not tell me that no rook has never done this before, i have been in an m-3 or c-47 and have had a b-26 take me out or shoot the goons. but i dont cry to the pilot of that b-26 that it is not fair, I tell my team mates at the field to kill the buffs coming up, it is there jod to protect the m-3 or c-47 and the goons.

Now as for what you are saying about my squad, go diddly yourself you whinning loser,
I dont normaly swear in here or on line, but i'll be danmed if i'll say nothing to a loser like you well you insult my squad mates, you got a problem with me, well im not that hard to find in the MA, so bring it on geekboy, but stop your whinning, and leave my squad mates out of this.

Ok, this has gotten way out of hand now.  I read your post in the off-topic forum Fury, sounds like you just had a bad day.  We all have them from time to time, so I can see why you might have been angry.  Attacking our whole squad publicly on the BBS was out of line though IMO.  Wolf did nothing that 99.9% of the players who play AH would not do themselves.  I'm sure this is just a misunderstanding and as such I appologize for the tone of my above post.  I hope you have better days in the future.

LOL  its all just a game , sometimes a very very aggrevating one for just a min or two , but great fun to play 99.999999999 % of the time.  (even without the Tempest, which would be ez to implement) .

I dont agree with using Bomber fwd guns on the ground, or using a Bomber as base defense.

Please exclude me, and the MOL from your "90% of guys".  If I hear of any of the members of MOL doing it, I would ask them to stop, and if necessary suggest they consider another squad before I would want them to make our squad look bad.

Thats how I feel about it.

Well considering you can disables  buffs with one quick strafing pass, I dunna see why this even becomes an issue. If people would just disable a base before trying to capture it we'd all be happier

Regardless of anothers actions we should always hold ourselves to the highest standard.

Nice thing about this forum is that if you post a message you regret posting you can delete it. I would suggest that wolf do this or atleast edit the message and remove the poor choice of words.

LOL! I can't believe this has never occured to me.  I'm gonna write that spot down.

One thing I will never do is get on the comms and criticize someone for defending their base.  If your bomber kills our troops, its our fault for letting you up or even for allowing you to spawn.
