To the confused about the WWIIOL free trial thingy.
« on: June 03, 2003, 01:42:09 AM »
You're paying 19.99 for the key to create an account. Boom, thats ALL you're paying for with that 19.99. Without the 'free trial' you'd have to activate the account with a valid credit card and pay 12.99 for your first month. The free trial gives you one month free.

AFAIK, AH and Shattered Galaxy are the only two MMOs that give you a free trial without having to purchase the software.

Everquest, AO1/2, Planetside and WWIIOL all follow the "pay for the software, and get a month free" business model.

Just so I 100% understand....

The FREE trial consists of saving you 12 dollars after spending 19?

No Nash, the free trial consists of you paying nothing to try the game for 7 days.

False. They refuse valid credit cards (Visa Gold, to be precise) as a mean of payment.

What's funny, they tell me to go to my bank to ask for details...I actually work in that bank  :D

"No Nash, the free trial consists of you paying nothing to try the game for 7 days."

Ah gotcha....

The 19.99 is for the key AFTER the 7 free days are over.

Thanks.

How do you figure that it has no flight model?  I believe it has a great flight model.

Both games have strengths and weaknesses.

Should we have a game of point out the other guys weaknesses?

First I'll do a disclaimer that having not tried the game yet, I do believe that it will be fun.  Also having not tried AH yet I may be mistaken as I am just going on what you and other guys state and what I see in screen shots.

anyway AH has icons over every unit including the enemy units.  Is this true?  WWIIOL does not do that, only air units but the big difference is that frindly and enemy air icons are grey at a distance when in real life you would only see that a plane is there but not be able to tell friend or foe.  Also when you change your view from say, front to left it takes a second for the icon to light up and fades in.  This is realistic because in real life when you fly around and look to your left you will not instantly be drawn to the enemy aircraft by a neon sign saying  "look here".  It's a realistic amount of time it takes for target aquisition.

Our aircraft can actually hide in a cloud.  I watched a 109 fly up into the clouds and his icon dissapeared.  There were only a few aircraft at the airfield since it was early in the morning and not many people were on.

AH has no side specific rides, it's red vs blue not Axis vs Allies.

AH has no ground clutter.

AH has no infantry.

You actually have to search visually for the enemy and it looks more realistic because there is no neon sign telling you where he is.

AH does not have a damage model as intense as WWIIOL that models all the vitals in a plane or tank.  Does the AH damage model take into acount armor thickness, slope, velocity of projectile etc, etc, etc. before it decides that a hit did any damage?

AH does not incorporate supply or attrition.

I guess my next point is this.  Both games seem to have lot's of people who love them so they must be fun.  So why is the bashing even necessary?

If you are going to spam us with comparisons of AH and Jogging Sim 2000 err WWIIOL, at least get your facts right.

Way to "clear that up" man.  Not.  I still don't get it after reading this whole thread.  So you are paying 19.99 for a 7 day "free trial"?

Nash seems to think that the 19.99 is paid after the 7 day period is over...but surely you need to create an account and require a key to get online for those 7 days...true or not?

Not

7 days are free.

If you choose to subscribe after the 7 day trial, you pay for the game just as you would say EQ in the store by paying 19.99 for the keycode.  Then you get the first 30 days free, no subscription fee.  After that the billing option you choose kicks in.  Most die hards use the 6 months for the cost of 5 months option.
