Bachelorettes Mistake Policeman for Stripper After Officer Arrives at Party on Noise Complaint

The Associated Press

GAINESVILLE, Fla. June 3 —
A police officer arriving at a bachelorette party because of a noise complaint was mistaken as the entertainment.

The partygoers thought Gainesville Police Officer Jamie Hope was the stripper, and they didn't realize he was legitimate until he drove away with the bride-to-be in handcuffs.

"They didn't go so far as to try and grab him," Gainesville Police Sgt. Keith Kameg said.

But they were wondering when the show would start.

"When he was taking her to his car, everyone thought he was the stripper and everyone said, 'OK, the warning has gone far enough. Are you going to start stripping?'" Kameg said.

The 30-year-old Hope, a married, six-year veteran of the force, was dispatched to the party early Sunday because of a noise complaint.

He issued a noise warning, and as part of procedure, he also ran a warrants check on the bride-to-be. That's when he found that the 24-year-old woman had an outstanding warrant for a violation of probation involving an almost 2-year-old open-container citation.

Court records show she had failed to pay $11 in connection with the citation, resulting in the probation violation and a warrant. The woman's bond set Sunday at $11, and she was released.

"He had to make an arrest," Kameg said. "We have to do that by law."

Said Hope: "I told her about the open container. Her friends, they were saying, 'I'm sure he's joking.' I guess she was waiting for somebody to tell her the joke was over. I don't think it hit home until we were actually in the car."

No, we have to enforce our laws when people are too stupid to pay an $11 fine, rather than skipping it and risking being carted off to jail at some time in the future.

I saw this kind of thing more than once while working in intake in the local co jail.  Idiots didn't pay some piddly fine (the smallest was a ~ $50 fine for angling w/o a license), so a warrant is issued.  Said idiot gets pulled over for random traffic offense, license is run for warrants by procedure, and now idiot gets a trip to the jail to be printed and photographed, gets a court date, and also has the joy of having his car towed and the expenses associated with that.

Nobody's fault but your own if you don't pay your fines.

There was a TV commercial with a similar premise, except it was a bachelor party and a female cop.

pay your piddly fines, the govt needs your piddly money, some times i think there is a law against everything.

"angling w/o a license"....hardened criminals

i think our police and courts should work on real crimes not "piddly" crimes.

Good point John, there should be no fines for anything.  Apart from murder, rape and assault, we should pretty much be able to do whatever we want without fear of being arrested.  And, if for some extreme reason a fine is warranted, this penalty should in no way be enforced.

get real. That cop must have had his baton up his bellybutton if he took that girl to the jail because of an $11 open container citation...

Geez what a retard.

He didn't take her to jail because of the citation, he took her to jail because of an arrest warrant issued because she didn't pay her ticket.

Take it up with the judge if you don't think arrest warrants should be issued for failing to pay a fine.  The cop's just doing his job... it's not his place to question whether the warrant is a "good" one.

A warrant is a court ORDER to any Law Enforcement Officer to arrest and take to jail the person who has already shown a lack of maturity and inability to take responsibility for their actions. You get a ticket, summons or any other legal problem that requires you to appear in court you had better figure on going or pay a harsher penalty later for your lack of responsibility.

The warrant does not grant exceptions to service.

Don't like the situation??? Tough and grow up while you're at it.
DEFINITION OF A VETERAN
A Veteran - whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life."

Yeah, because no cop in the history of mankind has ever been able to bend the rules and look the other way.

My statement still stands.

If you look after the pennies, the pounds will look after themselves...

I think pretty much the same applies to Law Enforcement

No, we need to get the open container criminals off the streets so they don't cross the center line and kill ourselves or our family.

Geez, Mondo, what is so difficult to understand about that. Drunk drivers kill, so they need to be thrown in the hooskow for as long as it takes for them to learn not to drive drunk ever again.

And as it's already been said in this thread, the dip**** woman should've paid her fine when she had the chance. It's not the cop's fault.

You're right.  The cop should have risked his career because she was too stupid to pay her fine.  What a jerk he was.
