divide and conquer
« on: June 03, 2003, 03:53:12 PM »
One fear I have is that AH2 will divide the number of players in half--thus the arenas will have half the players that they have now, each group having its own set of needs/wants/issues.  Even if the split that does occur isnt half there will be a significant redistribution of players.

HTC having a limited amount of manpower will have to abandon one of the arenas to keep the other up to date.  Trust me there will be people in both the MA camp and AH2 camp scraming about how much the other sucks/porked/boring.  Alienating half of the subscribers may kill the whole endeavor.  Thoughts?

Honestly, I don't see that happening. Theres a chance, but I think the folks that make up HTC are better than that. Besides the 2 arena's won't be soo different from one another that one will draw more resources causing the other to suffer, all arena's use the same AH engine. If you think about it, as it is now all other arena's are merely a subset of the Main arena providing player driven niche gameplay, training, and player driven scenarios. With AH2 it seems that things will stay the same but we'll have new code and a beefed up CT seemingly making all arenas a subset of the AH2:TOD arena.

Could it happen, yeah, but the concept of AH2:TOD won't be extremely different than what we have now, minus the upgrades.

first theres no ah2 camp

AH2 is AH

AH2 is actaully AH 2.0 like right now we are AH1.11 patch 4.

AH 2.0 will be revised graphics terrains etc.

There will be 2 arenas with 2 toatally different types of gameplay

AH2:Classic

Will be the same gamplay as the current main. Fast action field capture etc. It will have all the new art etc as the other arena Ah2:Tour of Duty

AH2:Tour of Duty wont be an open arena and wont have field capture and all the other things that make up the current main. It will be a mission based arena that attempts to create an rps. You will earn rank by completing missions generated by the host. Missions will run evry xx min. 30 min was the last reported time. The planeset will be limted by theater. Theaters will rotate.

These are 2 distinct arenas. With tour of duty as structured as it will most likely wont attract "half the main". Just like the ct, it only gets 10% of the main max and its more like the main then ToD will be.

Hopefullly some where around 100-150 people will be regular Tour of Duty flyers. that still leaves 400 or so for the main. Not to mention the possibility of new subscribers with the updated art.

therein lies the problem batz. If I am not mistaken (as I often am) HTC has said that AH:Classic will essentially not be supported; and AH:TOD will be the new "main".  Thus one group of players will be "left out" of the loop.  I can only think with the amount of time they are putting into AH:TOD that they will have to also put in the same amount of time (probably more) tweeking it to get it right; again to the detriment of the other arena.

Perhaps this is just paranoia, but a true concern none the less.  I am afraid that HTC will try to give everybody everything, and end up giving nobody anything.

Yup you are mistaken.

You havent followed along, there in lies your problem :p. Do a search for the link to the simhq interview, read the sticky faq at the top of forum.

Basically your post is based on nothing but speculation. Read my thread above. I am 100% accurate. Dont believe me, search this forum.

The problem is folks make unfounded assumptions based on nothing but their own speculation.

Happy Hunting, if you look you will find the answers. :)
