Too me 2.84 miles seems like quite a distance to ID an aircraft as an F4U-1D. Maybe you could ID it as an F4U but the exact variant from 2.84 miles? I'm no real life pilot, maybe it's easy to tell what variant it is up there, but in an "apples to oranges" scenario I can tell you that vehicle a mile away is a pickup and not a car but thats the best I can do and possibly most of you.

What about the angle at which your seeing the AC? I'm sure at some angles it's much easier to discern what type of AC it is versus some angles that don't show you alot of surface area.

Maybe they could augment the current system to include the variant in the icon when you get within a closer range.

I dunno, maybe I'm just talkin out my keester again.

You are forgetting that this is a GAME.... IRL a 109 @ 22k would only have to ID a few planes not the 50+ we have here. same in the PAC .. a zero pilot would not have to recognize a spit or 109.

in this GAME we are playing you could run into ANy plane Anywhere in here. thats why we need and have ID tags. (not to mention the 15" 65556 color video res i know some are flying with) not everyone has the money to get a $150 or more video card just to play a game.
I don't know what to put here yet.

Identifying is totally easy in real life. Even the most blind and stupid pilot could ID everything from many miles away and close up. That's why friendly fire accidents never ever happend.

hahahahahahahaha.   Not only did friendly fire incidents happen, but mis-identification was RAMPANT during the war.

You couldn't identify a sarcasm even if it was flying plan-form at 100 yards in front of you :p
