Torch Fight: Frame 1 Summary
« on: June 06, 2003, 11:57:39 PM »
Date Line, Tunisia

Today British and French forces smashed through the Mareth Line in southern Tunisia, although at a great cost to their forces. British bombers and tanks wiped out the remains of the Afrika Korps and Luftwaffe while the Desert Airforce largely held off repeated attacks by Stuka divebombers. After fierce fighting, the Germans in the south have been forced back to the north. British forces are advancing slowly due to the considerable damage dealt to them by the Luftwaffe and Panzer Corps.

American bomber forces ruled the skies over central Tunisia, with only light resistence, although damage to the Luftwaffe main airbase at Youks-les-bains was light. Civilian casualties, and Luftwaffe rear echelon forces took heavy casualties however, as the B-17s seemed to concentrate on nearby towns.

In their turn, German bombers in central Tunisia focused on two American armor staging areas, heavily damaging American land forces, and stalling General Patton’s planned advance.

General Jordi was reported as Missing in Action as his Bristol Bombay transport did not show up on time at A40. Forward scouts reported a major fire just over the horizon, the worst is feared. Major General Holder took over, however, there was relatively little to organise. All in all, things went well for the Allied side considering this adverse turn of events.

NEXT FRAME
Allied CO   Midnight – 412th Fighter Squadron
Axis CO   Bubbi109 – Rogue Squadron

Axis had some severe number shortages. With 2 sqauds complete no shows and 1 large squad that only 1 pilot showed up from. I am surprised we did as well as we did. Thank you all that showed and did such a great job. =S=

Yeah, no kidding. Until I read this report I had no Idea that we did poorly. I mean, from my POV, everything was just dandy lol.

Big thanks to the MAG who went out of their way to help us Shills make it to the target.

I had a lot of fun tongiht, and that's saying a lot since we were put in Stuka duty lol.

I got an email from Drill of the 457th stating that basically something major came up and took him out of the loop and that he passed on the info for his squad. But was not sure if they would organize in time to field any numbers without him.

Looks like they didn't.

I will look into the squads that did not show and contact them.

Will also talk with Holder about transferring and allied squad to the axis side after I talk with the missing squads.

I also noticed the severe number discrepancy last night. In light of this I do have to say that the LW side did a fantastic job when you were down by such numbers.

Okay have done some research (sorry for delay but wife is leaving this week for a long trip 3 weeks .. so she has sort of monopolized my time with errands and stuff).

Allied side had two squads as no shows:

  • AirMageddon (4-6)
  • 457th BG Fait Accompli (4-6)

I have spoken to Stink1 and she apologizes for a break down in getting the word out to her troops. AirMAgeddon should be there the next frame. 457th, Drill sent me a note about him not being able to make it ... there is a chance that 457th won't make the next frame also. Will keep you posted.

Axis side had two squads as no shows:

  • 357th Bomber Group (4-6)
  • Freebirds (4-6)

Fortunately since the committment levels of all squads that didn't show were the same they cancelled each other out. Although I will speaking to all C.O.s of the 4 missing squads.

Now what hurt the Axis was that 3 squads did not make their minimum numbers:

Dogz of War (DoW)   had only 3 pilots (7-10 range, min 5)
    Marine Air Group 33 ~MAG-33~ had only 8 (16-20, min 14)
Fat Drunk Bastards    had only 1 (7-10, min 5)

Outside of Marine Air Wing (fielded 11 max was 8) and III/Jabostaffel (fielded max of 12) the rest of the Axis squads had low to average attendance.

The Allied squads had average to high attendance. With 68th Lightning Lancers going over there max by 1 (field 13 when max was 12) and the Nightmares VMF-101 going over there max by 1 (fielded 28 when max was 27 ... sorry about this one extra got through I turned away 4 others but missed the 28th since his handle was in the second squad wing and I only counted 27 in the first wing forgetting that at one point we had a second wing active).

So over all how things turned out is that Allies turned out in solid numbers while on average Axis didn't. We have 4 squads no show .. 2 allied, 2 axis ... 2 Allied squads went over by 1 each, 1 axis went over by 3, and then we had 3 axis squads not meet their minimum with FDBs almost not showing.

Holder is taking corrective measures to get numbers more balanced.

I assigned gv duty to my 4 small squads 2 of which didnt show. The FDB's had stuka duty. The one FDB that showed got killed almost as he took off. Thats why the allies had such a easy time with our line S of V12.

Hear, hear, even if we did make that job easier by running like little schoolgirls at the merest hint of enemy fighters!

Also, props to Bubbi 109 and his crew, for knocking down some Spits that were in the way.

i know that the III/Jabostaffel did hit their target completly.. all strats and hangar hit @ the V base we were told to attack. 3 stukas made it through mine included (1 augered on accident LOL).

a huge to the fighters that pulled the insane #'s of p38's (like 20-30 vs our 6-7 190's) away so the bombers could get through.
I don't know what to put here yet.

Who you calling insane? Hmmm -- ;)

Actually Nightmares upped 28 and were tasked with sweeping A21 and then defending the Vehicle bases you guys attacked. You just ran into our moving screen.

Nice job.

Yeah, I noticed at about T-10 min that the numbers were roughly 98 for Allied, 64 for Axis. But then I thought "What a target rich environment we'll have!" :D  Then MAG-33 went on to have the highest K/D ratio for the Axis (No thks to me and my measley 2 kills)
