What's the Uber Prop?
« on: June 10, 2003, 04:19:43 PM »
With its no extra charge premium rides, the current Suez scenario is a great opportunity to hotrod super props Tempest, Spit 14, and F4U-4 as well as the 262.

Even if Ta252, other twittlers and Messes, and chog were there, from this Suez simulation I'd have to vote for Spit 14 as the uber prop fighter.

I didn't see much of the 4Hog in my one night.  Just one actually.

If I get a chance to play again before Friday, I'll try out the 4Hog in the setup.  For numbers reasons we ended up on the Spitfire team on Friday night.  The XIV did extremely well for me, with only a 262 getting me, I think.   I think I got 1 F4U-4, 1 Tempest, and 2 Ponies in a couple of sorties.

The fight against the 4Hog wasn't fair though.  I got him on the merge as he split between me and Swager (who was in a measley Spit IX!)  There were other whatever team we were on in the area too.  :(  So I can't say how good the fight would have been between the 4Hog and the Spit XIV.  There were too many green guys in the area, so we left the few Hogs to the others and went to play with the Temps, Ponies and 262s.

Spit IVX seems to me to be the least deadly of the "uber-props". It's got less "total E" than any of the others but only a marginally better turn rate. Wilbuz totally dominated me in a pony (know a lot of that is pilot ability) and both the tempest and -4 hog seem to just walk away from the spitty at will. I didnt have any problems with IVX in a tempest. Got hosed in the -4 (but was wrong end of a gangbang) and was "OK" in a pony...couldnt quite push it far enough on the edge (bit slow with the flaps) without losing it repeatedly.

The plane that provided me the most aggravation was the spit IX, since the bases are so close invariably you'd get a cherrypicker who would climb up over the fight and zoom in with one...or endlessly HO. Funny how things that dont bother you in the MAare suddenly a major annoyance in the CT.

Well i didn't have time to try the 4-Hog much so can't comment on this one, but the other planes in this setup (Spit 14, 9, Tempest and 262 - which are the ones I fly) come quite equal to me... And unless there is Wilbuz or Herr GRUNHERZ piloting the other planes I try to fight I have absolutely no problem to fight any other plane in any of the planes I named above.. And that is why i think that it is the pilot and not the plane what matters in here.... ;)

True, my rate of deaths in Spit 9 is much bigger than in any other plane, but i used it for attacking B-17 formations.... So I guess the 7 deaths total in it so far are still quite ok... (oposed by 30 kills in it).

In Spit 14, Wilbuz and Grunherz did teach me the hard way that tempest and 51 beats the 14 with no problems if flown right... and they did this to me 3 times in a row...  Guess I'm a slow learner... :D

Then there is 1 death in Tempest - 88's got me :(

And 1 death in 262 - CUTT and his 262 are responsible for that.. :) <S>

And i guess that is about all I can say about the current CT planeset setup... Well I like the setup as it is now...

I'd have to agree....this particular setup really seems to maximize "pilot value" vs any other factor...all of the planes are slightly different but overall capabilities are pretty well balanced. Really speaks highly for the pony that it can prosper in such a late war plane set (yes spitty is actually a mid 44 bird I think).

I think the type of fight you get into here determines how effective the plane is.  If you get into a 1v1 co-alt fight, the better turner will win unless the pilot of the better E plane is patient.

Therefore the spit 14 beats F4u4 and Tempest, P51D beats Spit 14 and Spit IX beats the P51D.

In a group situation, the opposite is true.  The slower better turning planes get knocked down low turning to save their lives while the more powerful planes boom and zoom them.

Their are of course exceptions.  Some pilots are so much better than their opponents that plane type almost doesn't matter.   But I think where abilities are fairly equal, these generalities will hold true.

IMO the Spit14 is practically invulnerable to P51 and Tempest if you keep vertical - at least more invulnerable than anything I have ever flown. The way it climbs from even the Tempest is simply unbelivable. OTH if you try to turn it and fly like a Spit 9 then you will die very quickly.
