Fathers' Day message

My children wrote this for me.  I though I'd share it, because I'm so damn proud of them.  Happy Fathers' Day to dads everywhere.

What is a Father?

What is a Father?
He is the person who sings you lullabies,
And reads you stories,
And teaches you what you can be.

He is the one who tells you to be strong,
And gives you the strength to be humble.
He is the man who may not have all the answers,
But knows what to say just the same.

What is a Father?
He is the man who answers the question,
“How much do you love me?” with,
“More than my life itself,” and means it.

He is the man who knows when to laugh,
And when to shout,
And who loves his children equally in either circumstance.

He is the man who wishes he could protect his children forever,
But knows when to stand back and let them grow.
He is the one who teaches his sons to be men,
And tells his daughters, “Go ask your mother.
You have always been an inspiration to me;
A role model for the man I want to be.
We love you dad.

You’ve got great kids, however, I’m very impressed that they managed to successfully collaborate on this one without killing each other!

Thanks, Eskimo.  No doubt some blood was spilt in the process, but they had it all cleaned up before I got up Sunday morning.  Hope you had a good Fathers' Day as well.

My 7 yr. old son wrote out a Fathers day message and painted a picture(of he and I) at the bottom of the sheet, then had it lamenated.  It was a school project on Friday. In his writing, the message:

"The important thing about dad is he loves me and he is my buddy.  He likes to play with me and play baseball too.  

He doesn't like to play with barbies or Yu-Gi-oh.

He can help me do my homework and he always gives me his love.  He plays football with me too.  

But the most important thing about my dad is he loves me.

Love Gordon."

Thank God I have him fooled about the Barbies!

No allowances.  They get good behavior bonuses from time to time.

Are any of your kids teenagers yet?

The way I figure it, God gives us 12 years, and 364 days to develop an unbreakable bond of love and affection with our children because the instant they hit that 13 year mark, things start to change!

Three out of four above the age of 13...Oldest turns 18 next week.  No request for addition allowance tendered, but the week is young;).

Rip: Sounds like you're a pretty lucky man, too.

Oh, and here's my favorite parenting saying...

"When I was 18 years old, I couldn't believe how dumb my dad was.  When I turned 21, I couldn't believe how much he'd learned in just three short years!"

24, 22, 20 and 15 year olds here. Nothing feels better than a heartfelt apology from a young adult. "I was a real jerk when I was younger, sorry Dad." Makes up for a lot of sleepless nights and arguments with teenagers who think they know everything and that you must have taken a stupid pill at age thirty.
