Geforce 4 brand??
« on: June 17, 2003, 07:32:20 AM »
Got rid of my ATI 9500 due to a video stuttering problem and am now going to go out and get a GF4 TI4200 or TI4600...

There are 40 billion different manufacturers for these cards nowadays.  Can anyone recommend a manufacturer?  I've heard bad things about PNY.

Is it worth the extra money to get an 8x AGP versus one that only does 4X AGP?  Am I going to see a difference?

Much Thanks!

Albatron 4600 for $169

Leadtek and Gainward are great for overclocking you can get a ti4200 gainward powerpack golden sample and over clock the core and memory to 4600 speeds, but its only $18 cheaper than the albatron.

You will not see any difference between AGP 8X and 4X anyone that tells you otherwise is full of it.  It has a very very very slight difference on paper, your eyes will never see it.

Theoretically, they should be all the same.  I was more curious if anyone was having any issues with a particular brand (i.e quality/perfomance issues).

Thanks for the replies all....  Settled on a chaintech TI4600 128 MB 4x...

I can almost FEEL those FPS :D

Any Geforce ref board is fine.  But what are you talking about stuttering....that isnt anything Ive seen with ATI boards (got a few) unless its caused by ZOne ALarm (older versions) or other issues...the ATI boards I have all are stutter free.

Uhuh then you need to go read the ATI forums, they are full of people complaining about lots of games giving stuttering video.
And i also suffer with bad Stutters only online when using the latest version of Zone alarm pro.
Also getting mouse corruption in 2d as soon as i click on the advanced tab in display settings, others have confirmed this and it seems to be a bug if you use win98 or ME.

Boy i wish i had checked those forums before buying, i would have stuck with the GF4 TI4200 128mb.

Having said that it looks much better and plays fast but it is a pain in the arse.

Currently I own a PNY  Geforce 4 Ti 4400 128 mb  very nice card it gets me 120 to 140 fps w/30.82 drivers.

If I had to replace it with something comparable I would go with the Asus Ti 4600 they just make kick prettythang cards period

I can only imagin a VERY small percentage have any real issues.  Many people with problems have background programs causing issues (sone alarm is a classic for this), and often have spyware eating up cpu cycles in huge chunks.

Ive got 3 ATI cards and 2 Geforce cards, with nary a stutter on 5 seperate systems.
