The Chinese claimed a couple of months ago that some North Korean military personnel had been entering China and stealing food from local villages to take back to North Korea.

I knew they ate dogs....

But people....  Human intestines with rice and fermented cabbage just the way ole Kim Il's grandmother used to make..

add some soju and OB beer and im there.....

Yummy....

Hope they have a side of Fauva beans to go with it.....

There is a reason that peninsula has been conquered on and off....for that last 1000 years...

I think it depends on how the meat was handled. If it was properly cleaned and kept refridgerated until it was prepared, I see no problem.

However, it would be wrong if the meat were misrepresented as pork or chicken. I could see that happening.

Or if the meat were "road kill" - the dirty bodies of people that got hit by cars or buses. That wouldn't be right. You wouldn't know what you're getting.

Youre absolutely right Ted Bun... er Gunther.  Preparing the rotten corpses of roadkill victims and passing them off as the "other" white meat is just plain wrong.

Strange how the only mention of the source of these reports - The North Korean Refugees Assistance Fund - that I can find is in relation to this story. Prior to June 6, 2003 the internet appears to have never heard of them. Médecins Sans Frontières, UNHCR, USCR, all make no mention of this group. I note that according to Relief Web's quote of a Médecins Sans Frontières report, Chinese citizens aiding NK refugees are heavily fined (5,000 - 10,000 Kuai) and rewarded for reporting or taking refugees to the police. Doesn't sound like the sort of climate where you be allowed to have "an aid body set up in China five years ago which helps to smuggle food and medicines into parts of North Korea off-limits to WFP officials." Do I detect the lingering musk of the Office of Strategic Influence? ;)
