A little help with night and gamma adjustment
« on: June 18, 2003, 08:00:31 AM »
HTC, I'm not even going to try to talk you out of night in Aces High.  Your game ...

However, I would like to point out the following:  When I alt-tab out to adjust the gamma, 50% of the time it porks my audio.  Since I'm running win98, that means I have to cold-start my box!  Now, that is a giant pain in the tuchas.

AKIron found a neat utility http://www.entechtaiwan.com/ps.htm
which permits you to adjust the gamma without leaving Aces High.

So, how about giving us a gamma adjustment as part of the clipboard and let me save $30?

an alternative is this

http://www.colorific.com/d1.htm

with it you can preset your game gamma.............

I have also heard tell that it affects the fade  rate into blackout ............ never noticed it myself

not on all video cards but most higher-end ones there is an adjustment for "gamma"

if you have windows media player 8 open a movie then goto enhacements and video settings or something like that. there will be a gamma setting and use that to see the effect.

if your video card does offer it it would be under the settings/advanced/ somewhere. it will make everything brighter.
I don't know what to put here yet.

i'd rather at least see you pay if you're gonna game the game that much...

why am i not surprised the lengths dweebs will go to?

i don't futz with my gamma, even tho i could. i just do something else...

having said that, i wouldn't mind a much shorter "night" than current runs... dawn/dusk are soookay... maybe shorten them a tad, as well.

now pizza, otoh... needs to be darkened greatly... and lowered overall.  :D  olbigatory thread hijack.

oh yeah, perk the la7!! keep it out of noob hands and let the experten make full use of it to terrorize the clueless seals aka "vets."

Look at this another way Shane.   Should a sim have features that can be worked around?

For instance, suppose that blackout could be defeated by monitor adjustment?  Would it make sense to keep blackout?

You might say "why, that would be cheating!"  And, I more or less agree, but a good solution would be to remove the feature that can be gamed because others will adjust their monitors.

In my case, with the room lights turned out, I can't see well enough to fly near the ground.  I have three choices: 1) crank gamma; 2) fly a buff; 3) fly a fighter into the ground.

Guess which one I don't do.

you have other choices...

go to DA with a buddy

take a noob or neophyte to TA/DA and *teach* them

go to CT

log off for a bit

imho i think adjusting this setting or that setting beyond "reasonable" is... well.. you know... lame... but my definitions of lame might not be yours.

like i said, *I* don't do those kind of things, but it doesn't surprise me others might...  it's up to one's self to set and hold their own standards.

YMMV and all that. check out seeker's quote in my sig.  hell, read the whole sig.... again... :D

I've never seen any reason to let others make definitions for me.  That means I'm not thinking and my "thinker" works quite well (although my eyes aren't very good.)

As to the choices that you outline above,  well, they're just not choices for me - they're more like wearing a "hair shirt."

Your choices admit the game is generally unplayable during night time.  Why should I endorse  a game feature (by paying for it) that makes the game unplayable for me?

you can still  do the choices you listed... i *can* fly at nite, it's not 100% black screen.. i *do* at times play during the night doing various things, including playing pretend nite-fighter and using radar and chasing icons... it's not impossioble to play, just more of an annoyance than it's worth in general (for me anyway).

yet.... i still won't game my gamma. i deal with what i have or do something else... i'm not a slave to MA... HTC has several other nice alternatives to the MA... but again that's *me,* not *you.*

i won't complain about or accuse people of adjusting gamma because it's not a major issue to me other than the generic opinion that people who *do* crank their gamma up  or try and work around "features" for some perceived advantage (and you know who you are) are... slobberdonkeys. dead slobberdonkeys if i get them in my gunsights. usually.. unless i'm getting underwhelmed by superior numbers.

;)

Like others, I absolutely hate the night. It sucks all the fun out of the game. Game away gentlemen... you have my support.
