vid problems
« on: June 18, 2003, 10:20:30 PM »
I've got a weird problem with my system.  it only comes up on blizzard games (warcraft, starcraft, diablo2....)  but when I start the games that have no intro enabled, the game begins to load and the screen flashes a few times back and forth from the game to desktop while changing rez.  then it drops to desktop.  the game is still active below and if I click on it it will flash up and shut right back down.

the games that do have an intro load real slow and the intro comes up one block at a time 1/4" squares.  after the intro finally loads it then drops to desktop like the other games.

I'm assuming it has something to do with the video card (maybe getting to hot, if I shut the system down for awhile it works again for awhile) .

the other that is weird is when I run dxdiag (while the games aren't running) it says no problems and direct draw tests fine but when I run d3d tests I get a message that says I stopped the test by hitting a key, even though I didn't.

after shutting down for awhile the tests run fine but as soon as the games start screwing up the dxdiag test screws up to

all my other games seem to be running ok, only the blizzard games seem to be having trouble.

and this has been happening off and on for a month or so.

any ideas.

btw-any programs out there that will monitor my vid card temp?

Could be a video driver that your game doesn't like.

More likely, your OLDER games don't like Windows XP.Try emulating an older version of Windows.

Right click on your desktop shortcut of any of the programs, then click on properties. The click on the "compatibility" tab. From there you can select several older version of Windows to emulate,as well as some different video settings.

Hope this helps you. :)
