How do you customize the look of the clipboard map?
« on: June 21, 2003, 02:07:49 AM »
Hello guys!!

I just finished my first map today, actually the map itself it didn't take long at all, because it is an extremelly simple one.

Well after that I wanted to customize the look of the clipboard map, so I opened the bmp file in a graphic editor program and I started customizing the look of that bmp picture, went in TE and build it again, but... when i go to play if i select that map, the game shuts itself down (u can say it's crashing I guess).

Well what it's the proper way to do that??

DiieWankee!! are you around?!:)

THANK YOU GUYS!!

1. What size is your picture your using for the CB map.

2. What size is your map.

3. What colour depth (it has to be 256 colour or map will crash every single time in the TE)

Let me just run it down from the top, while in editor select settings choose map size, then go directly to file tab then select make map your map needs to be 512x512 you can do here, your made map will be in your (terrains name) file at this point you can edit  draw on paint  add text or whatever you want, when complete change from map to name of your terrains name then you need to decrease its color  to 256 (Irfanview.com) this is a free program perfect for size and color changes, after you've changed color depth place map into texsrc file (you have to create this folder) then re-enter editor and build, your CB will show your map. If you need anymore help just write me.  :D

Hello Gatso!! Thanx for replying man.

Hello DiieWankee!! that worked.

I was taking the original clipboard amp that I made, which wasn't customized and I was customizing that, and after I was rebuilding. Well looked like that wasn't the proper way.

The way you said/explained it worked flawlessly. THANK YOU!!!

One more question here...

Last nite i was hosting and today i changed my map to show the customized CB map. Well I didn't change the name of the .res file (the terrain file)

My question is: The people that were last nite on my host will be able to join again with the new map, if they already downloaded a map with the exact same name last nite, or I have to change the name of the .res file? Will they be able to redownload and overwrite the old map file with the new one?

THANK YOU!!!

You'll need to change the name any changes will only be noticed by you and anyone who downloads the new map, not sure but you might have to change the whole file then rebuild, thats what I do anyway when I make changes to terrains.

I did a full rebuild, for evey time when I changed the CB map, just wanted to know if those people will be prompted to overwrite the old file.

However if I have to I'll rename it a bit different, no biggie.

Mucho Gracias!

P.S. Check SIX and check your email box as well;)
