New research became available concering autism - a serious mental disability that increased enormously over the last few decades.
The concentration of mercury in the baby hair (cut at the age of 18 months) was 6 time lower in children that grew up to be autistic compared to the normal children.
The most reasonable explanation is that some people are unable to properly process mercury and get it out of the system - possibly for genetic reasons.
While nothing can be done about genetics for now, removal of mercury from child/mother diet should prevent those cases.
The main source of mercury in food is certain kinds of fish - Tuna, Swordfis, King Mackerel, Shark. The levels are extremely high in those fish and children should not eat those while adults should restrict the intake to no more than a few ounces a month.
Of course the original source of mercury in that fish is the enourmous amounts of mercury released into athmosphere while burning coal.
Also, some baby vaccines contain mercury-based concervants.
One alternative but less likely explanation compatible with the same results is that it is not mercury that causes harm directly but that its anomalously low concentration in baby hair indicates the inability of the organism to properly process some metals in general and deficiency in those metals (zink, copper, etc.) affects brain development.
As long as we talk science, the discovery has just been made that over the last 24 years the amount of energy our sun has been producing has increased by 0.05% every 10 years! It's not much but the cumulative effects could be quite significant. For example, if this trend had begun even earlier, say as little as about 100 years ago, it would account for a significant amount of the global warming that has become so important to both climatologists and environmentalists.
