There was a 16 year old boy in karate class for about two years.  He was a good student and could defend himself in a fight.  He was in the Navy Sea Cadets through ROTC in his school.  He was a good guy and I liked him...he would mow the yard for spending money.  I even let him drive my car one time cause I trusted him.

He wanted to be a Navy Seal, and I have no doubt he would have been a good one.

Several times, I asked him if he was interested in mowing the yard and making some money.  He did a good job.  Even helped me with some gardening work.  One time he came over with one of his buddies to mow the yard.  He had completely changed.  He had tattoos, piercings, and orange hair.  Both he and his buddy wore their pants so their underwear shown.   I was my Mom's house and I arrived there about the time they were finishing up.  They did a good job, but man, why the radical change?

About two weeks later, I read in the paper where he had participated in a local apartment complex confrontation, and had fired a mini 14 into the apartment of someone one of his buddies had a quarrel with.  This was toward the end of the confrontation, not to start out with.   He didn't kill or hit anyone, but he's probably still in jail for doing that.

I have no idea why he changed so radically and so quickly, but he fell among the wrong crowd somewhere along the line.

Not saying this has anything to do with the Sea Cadets.  Stay away from scumbags.

No, U S Navy bootcamp is 8 weeks.  Hawk is going to Sea Cadet bootcamp, sorta like JROTC for the Navy.  We have some at my Reserve Center, just high school kids.

Best advice I can think of is keep your mouth shut and your ears open. Your Instructor is there to help you, most of the guys around you are not.

Make sure you ask someone why the Navy has their name sewn on the bellybutton of their "dungarees."

Its not on the ass, its on the rear hip area above the back pocket.  Its for easy ID'ing when the laundry gets passed back out after the SH's wash them.  EVERY uniform item has your name or initials on it somewhere.  And they are not called dungarees anymore, they are called utilities although old timers, like me, still call em dungarees.

Nah, you're confusing the Navy with the Air Force.  LMAO
