Tap...Tap...Tap...Pyro, Is this thing on...?
« on: September 09, 1999, 08:27:00 PM »
First of all I'd like to say that I wish all of the people at "Aces High" the best of luck with their new baby...There's always a market for a better mousetrap...no matter how many variations there already are out there...That being said...onto the subject of my post.

I began playing Warbirds back in the beta days...and still hold an account, but the the most bitter pill I had to swallow the entire time I was paying you guys $2.00 an hour was the fact that while Pyro was responsible for releasing information to the community we were treated like virtual mushrooms...ie, left totally in the dark...etc etc.

This type of behavior IMO breeds contempt...towards the company you are paying good money to...and if anything, only causes an enviroment that breeds false rumors and unecessary flame wars.

When the media release info back at Warbirds was finally handed over to "Mo", things immediately lightened up on AGW...and when iEN finally started a policy of open dialog with the community, (weekly sitreps, and actual people within the company fielding questions off of the message boards,) I felt like an East Berliner watching the wall come down.

While I haven't read each thread entirely on this board, it appears we're heading back into the Dark Ages again...I come onto this board hoping to find updates, (not specific release dates,) or info on features of this game to look forward to...and I'm finding zip point zilch.

What's the point of even having this board in place if all it provides is a base for pointless speculation between the users, and a perfect place for us to argue amongst ourselves out of boredom...?

Again guys...I wish you great good fortune with "Aces High"...but please don't start out by making the same mistake again.

Please...read my signature...

Respectfully

With respect Mookie,
Its very hard for them to release much information while it's still in alpha.
And I bet all the Alpha testers are under a NDA agreement even tho they are probably busting to tell us how good it is.

They would also be fools to give away any info on Strategic stuff with twoo other companies in direct competition.

Wait until its in beta, and updates are coming thick and fast. then we can wait foor the info.
Right now I would rather they just concentrate on getting it as bug free and as good as it can be before the beta release.

(hey Pyro, Hitech, was that what you would say?  can I be your Press Officer?   )

Carrot...

Sometimes saying something, even if it's nothing, is saying something...like "Hey sorry we can't release specific details on our new release yet, but we're working on bomber cockpit graphics this week, and we think you're going to like them;" or "So far we've got five or six aircraft modeled"  or "We're taking a different approach on our gunnery model this time."

I've heard all the excuses..."We don't want to give anything away"...or "Would you rather having us answering your questions here on this board or working on the release...?" (this one really ticks me off.)

I don't think taking five or ten minutes out of a weekly work schedule to release a progress report is really going to cause their schedule to come to a screaming halt.)

Look how fast the Mac community came around as soon as Hoss started posting his log to the community...I used to read it everyday...and I was running a PC...!

I'm not looking for specific information or Industrial Trade Secrets here...just some courteous rapport.

You know yourself Carrot how a few words a week on the Warbirds AGW board from the Command Center on the general state of things can salve many wounds and double people's patience...mine anyway.

I really don't think it's too much to ask...It just seems that I'm starting to see and old trend falling into place again.

I hope I'm wrong, and would not mind ending up looking like a jerk on this one.

Sorry have to disagree

Just done a search on both Pyro and Hitech.
Both have a total of 100+ posts in the General NG.
And I havent done a search for Superfly or Natedog etc.

Ok, none (that Ive seen in the last week or so) but overall an abundance of info and posts for the short time this has been up.

I gotta agree with Carrot here.

Most of Pyro's post weren't on AGW but on the WB newsgroup, sponsored by ICI. MO's post were generally on AGW because he was fresh from the customer base at hire, and knew how well read it was.  Even though Pyro was aware of this development I assure you, as party to the goings-on during the final days, that Pyro read and considered the opinions expressed there. His choice not to respond fell into the same category of ennui we _all_ were feeling.

I hope I don't presume to much in posting this way - I speak from a distance and haven't spoken to Pyro on this issue - but I've already felt his dedication to AH and the ensuing community (usually it takes 3 beers, however  ) on customer issues.

If this is some kind of sophomoric attempt to elicit more info than is on the web page then I applaud your efforts - sometimes an attact is a realisable tactic.  But to impune a disregard for the community on Pyro's part is unfounded.

I personaly know both MO and Pyro and in my opinion, regarded as divine in some circles  , they both exibit a competence and dedication that can only be described as "gifted". Albeit their styles vary by contintel proportions.

Looking for info on PLAYNET yesterday I came across a site featuring a diary by one of their programmers (snail?). It is a bit sporadic, no entries for a few weeks, but it might give you somewhere else to look and some idea of what they are working on.

No I cant remember where it is off the top of my head

Mookie,
Your kiddig yes.  From What Ive seen on this board PYRO and HT are being very active.  They have said quit a bit if you ask me.  And look at the screen shots.  What do you want? For them to spell out exactly what they are doing every day ?   Why?  They need to keep some things under wraps. They are developing.
I work for a major aircraft builder.  We make press releases all the time on new things. But we dont tell the whole story untill its released.  I would think a software developer would need to do that even more to protect what they are doing.  I for one think the info is just enough to tell us whats going on without going in depth and to keep us wanting more  .  PYRO/HT can we have more screenshots PLEASE.

Man Some peoples kids.

Mookie, I think you need to do a little more research before spouting accusations about people.  You even said yourself that you haven't read all the threads.  So why even say something like that when you don't know what you're talking about?
Right now we've been busting our butts to put this game out into beta on time, which is why there may not be new posts as often as there were when we first put up the board.  There has been plenty of discussion with posts from HiTech and Pyro on this board.  Do a search on their names, or anyone else in this company for that matter.  It's that simple, but if you have any specific art questions, I'd be happy to answer them.

I try to answer as many things as I can, but I'm just an art guy. I think Pyro has given plenty of information to the community.... the only questions he hasn't answered are about pricing, for obvious reasons....

are there any questions you need answered?
I'd be happy to try and answer them, or point you in the direction of a post with the answer on it.

Ok, this thread's going bad...

Bring out yer sparrows!

And really, ozthinks the screenshots section would be some good indicator of at least some of the planes being modelled.  As for how far things have progressed, again the screenshots can give a clue (ok, so that IS user dependent.  )  Read the captions below them.  Every so often ozsees a post saying new screenshots are up.  Do a search on posts by the dev crew.  Look for information before claiming you can't find any.  Then you won't be able to claim you can't find any.    But that just oz opinion...

OK HiTech- turn the light on.

Forget about the sim, screen shots, etc.

What I really want to know is how did ACM go for you in Chicago! God I'm jealous!!!

Fess up now, did You rule or get your but waxed? How about puting up the gun camera film. So what if it delays the beta for a month or so.
