For everyone who hasn't seen the movie and is interested in cars. You HAVE to go see this movie. There are American muscle cars in the movie as well as rice burners. For everyone who has seen the first movie I suggest the second, it is better than the first. There's a girl with a pink Honda S2000 without her license and Ludacris hits on her, it's pretty funny. The racing scenes are awesome! You have to go see it. I rate it as an A-

I didn't want to see it.

I saw the first one, and it was dumb.  The previews made this look dumber.  I was going to pass on this and let it pass into the mists of unwatched movies that I'll never see, alongside 'Heartbeeps', 'Biker Boyz', and 'Charlies Angels: Full Throttle'.

Then my friend calls.  He wants me to come, I say no.  He says he'll buy me a ticket, I waffle.  He persists, finally I say ok, as long as I'm not giving them money for it (he's paying).

I gotta say...  this is not a bad movie.  It is a lot better then the first one.  It's fun, it's exciting, and the cars are cool.  I hate to say this, because the trailers make this sound false, but the cars act a lot more realistically in this.  There are only a couple of scenes with silly stunts, the rest is pretty good.

The car mods are neat, I'm thinking of doing the 'snorting dragon' effect on my Explorer (without installing nitrous, I think that'd kill my old SUV).

Check it out, it's pretty good.

I saw bits and pieces of "Fast and The Furious" and it inspired me to think about turning my 93 Civic coupe into a project.  But the Honda computer kept going brain-dead so I took that as a sign from the import gods and traded the Civic for an Xterra instead.

Speaking of movies pandering to ethnic subcultures, I was flying AH late one night and caught this blast from the past.  I saw the last 20 minutes and it looked... interesting in an '80s sort of way.  I don't know how I missed its theatrical release, then late-night Cinemax/HBO/Showtime cable release, then VHS release.  Being filmed in Manhattan with a lot of outdoor rooftop scenes, it was interesting to see the WTC rising in the background.  And the lead actress is HOT in an ethnic subculture sort of way.

edit: then again, it was 2:00am so my judgment wasn't at its sharpest.  And I was only half-watching since I was up to my eyeballs in marauding Spitfire IXs.  And I had the volume turned down so I could hear the radio calls.  So the film probably sucked except for the nude love scenes (censored on basic cable, of course).

Geez...I got roped into seeing this movie too.  Yeah, it was slightly better than the first one...at least in this one skaterboy cop dude didn't look over at his laptop to mess with the fuel mixture with one hand in the middle of a race doing 140mph and driving with the other hand.

But it still was cheeeezy.

NOS warp factors!  12 speed gear boxes that can only be upshifted and never downshifted...I swear I counted one guy who upshifted 11 times.
: puke:

And the cgi was so cartoonish that it was no more difficult to suspend disbelief than it is when Wiley Coyote is resurrected after a 1000ft fall.

At least Skaterboy's sidekick in this one was pretty funny.  Vin Diesel's best performance to date has to be him dying from a sniper shot in Private Ryan...the best part being that he died.

Ah, but that's part of why this movie was good, it wasn't just hopped up civics, there was some real american muscle car (and it wasn't just the sad 'my daddy died and left me this' it was racing for pinks).

And probably lost, right Chair?

God knows a Civic with a mad-phat body kit and NAAAWWWWSSSSSS will smoke a 454.  :p

Well, you force me to spoil a little, but the only reason the muscle car loses is because of dirty tricks.  It's quite clear that the bad guys in the two muscle cars would have won otherwise.

So kindly stuff it.  :D

Fortunately cars don't put torque "to the ground", they exert force on the ground.  :)
Torque means diddly unless we are talking about power tools.  :)
