I have installed this on a couple of systems, without any nasty side effects.  Big update.  Just FYI.

Just use Internet Explorer, under Tools and Windows Update.  It is in the Critical Updates section.

Thanks Skuzzy. Put it on my wife's PC yesterday. Don't know if it's the culprit but now everytime she accesses a secure page about thrity certificate warnings pop up.

Do you have IE6 installed?  I don't (5.5 here) and the SP install seemed to go fine.  No anamolies yet.

Chekc in IE and see if the update tampered with the security settings.  There is an option to disable those warnings in the settings for IE.

It does have ie6 installed. I tried all of the default security settings to no avail. I'll take a look at the setting you mentioned, thanks.

I have avoided IE6 for quite some time.  Seems it is a bit messed up.

Iron, one obvious thing to check would be that the date and time on your PC is correct.  That often mucks up secure web sites...

Skuzzy, do you see a compelling reason to update if SP2 is working fine for me?  Thanks...

Sancho,..it does fix some issues and I have not had a problem yet with it.  Your mileage may vary, but I skipped SP3, due to some 'things' in it.
Those 'things' have been removed from SP4.

Sancho, you were on the money, the time/date settings were lost and causing the problem, thanks.

Grab "Atomic Clock" Iron.  That will forever alleviate clock problems.  I had forgotten I have that installed.  Great little utility.

Good idea Skuzzy, thanks. I do sync my xp machine to a time server and it's on anytime she turns hers on. I'll just sync hers to mine.
