what's with the pastel?
« on: September 12, 1999, 09:06:00 PM »
The sim would have a such a nicer look if the graphics just weren't so pastel. Any comments HTC?

Not exactly sure what you're referring to.  I haven't noticed anything I'd label as pastel.

We will be changing some things or at least experimenting with some different things.  The terrain textures are something we have talked about doing differently.  Those were done in a style that we think works well, but we really didn't spend much time trying some different things.  HT has also talked about using some higher resolution terrain textures for those who have video cards with more memory.

Hmm..maybe ik is referring to the baby blue sky in the screenshots.
That's all the "pastel" I could find.

Or did you guys post a screenshot of the secret plane (Barbie's Spitty)?

Greetings,

While on the question of "screen shots",

OK, so I fudged a little.

Anyway,  my opinion is that they are all too dark. It's hard to distinguish details, especially on the ground.  At least on my system.

Is the overall color going to be "lighten" up in the beta and ultimately in production??

Doesn't this look a little off to you?

Maybe it's because you guys are stuck inside all day programming     Here's what a real sky looks like to me though:

Ok then! <cracks his whip>

What its difficult to see the camoflaged <sp?> spit against the ground?

What I am wondering is where are the Clouds that I can hide in to dive on the Spit?

Or is it because the sky is the same color until it gets close to the ground?

The sky color will be fixed.  Remember, "the screen shots do not reflect a finished, polished product."  Always keep this in mind when you see screen shots.

If it's the sky you're referring to, I would say that the problem is just the opposite- that it's not pastel enough.  The second picture that you posted is a lot more pastel.

hmmm, i usually think of pastel as being more "thick" or "dense" with color like Warbirds. The pic I posted I see as being more lifelike, but I guess this isn't the point

More like the pic I posted if you please! Thanx!

Clouds, beautiful clouds. Clouds to hide in, to run into, to just look at.

Clouds...is there anything they CAN'T do?

Read any good real WWII account and you'll see how important clouds were.

They saved the skins of J.E. 'Johnny' Johnson, Erich Hartmann and other distinguished Aces on numerous occasions as well as aided and abetted their perfect bounces

Can we have clouds and sky like: SDOE? Best daytime sky in the sim world in my opinion, when you modify the Fog range in the .ini file that is.

and Floo...sorry they don't drive cars or even shut the woman up when she's nagging about how sad you've become playing online till 2am #@$*!
