I wont win it, but think the contest is a cool idea.
to be killed is as frenchy said a thing that happens and alot (for me) but its fun to try a plane i hardly flown before.
I will fly the jug this tour as a primary ride (fu4-4 somthimes)
I have never flown only 1 aircraft for a whole tour, because I never able to make up my mind for what plane :)
this tour its a little more easy.

I'm waiting for a Ki-61 contest.

I tried the P-47D25 but decided it was just too much of a pig for my style.

I'm already seeing a number of benifits from flying this "Pig" that will translate back to every other plane in AH.

Because I no longer have the arrogent Lavochkin,  Pony, or Spit mindset, I'm paying a lot more attention to everything I do. Please accept this comment as a knock only on myself. I'm seeing now just how lousy I am at flying those planes.

I think this is a Frenchy Sneeky on all of us who have agreed to fly the D-25. Like he said to me a week ago. I will be an overall better pilot for this experience. I probebly won't win this contest, but a bunch of you who are non-Knights are gonna see me on your tails before the contest is over.

Thennnnn,,I'll wave hello as you reverse me and blow my kester off--:D

Tried the D25 last night, gotta say those 8 .50s make it an ezy mode plane...  :D

Bagged 8 kills and a couple of assists on my first flight in it, even had to set the views after take off.  :)

It is a nice ride though, dives great, holds it's energy well, like an overweight, ugly pony really.  I might just have to keep flying it this tour and see if I can make 100 kills in it.  ;)

Knew I was gonna get my butt kicked and not win this contest...  But on the other hand, by the end of 7 days I started landing some of my kills. :D

Who knows after 30 days, maybe I can take off, shoot down a passing seagull or 3, and actually get home every time.:D :D :D

Frenchy is getting verryyy sneeky in his old Youth;)

Someone give a beer to Bustr :D  Right on Sir!

BlueMac, the jug is very treaturous. It's far from uncomon to load 100% of fuel and go home with at least 7 kills, none being a vulch. So you think "puff, too easy!".

Then, next mission, 10 minutes into the flight, just passing 10k, you have a spit coming on you escorted by a N1K1 and you are screewed.
Or, you rack up 11 kills B&Zming the furball with the discipline of a zen master, and comes with 1 LA7 forcing you to run. And that's it, next thing you know, you are on the deck, with a LA7 slowly gaining on you, with 2 spits in a far trail, waiting for the LA7 to make you turn.

It's a very easy plane as long as you have the advantage, it's a coffin as long as you lost it, as you cannot rely on a "ubber speed" nor "ubber turn".
Dat jugs bro.

Frenchy, too true.  I'm expecting to have difficulty keeping any sort of reasonable k/d in it :)

Couple of questions on the D25 that you might be able to help with:

1) What is the corner speed?

2) What is approx Vne (ie. compression speed)?

3) What is the best glide angle speed?

4) What are the cruise and normal power settings?

Cheers,

mako

Bmac,

I have no clue what is the corner speed.

The Vne is about 550 TAS, the best economy I use is 32MP/21RPM.

Best glide? 175MPH doesn't look too bad.

All those, it's what I use, probably far from the optimum. I never took the time to run zillions of tests to know what is optimum.

I'm having a ball and learning heaps!

I managed to land 3 kills last night after taking off from a capped base with 25% fuel. I took the light weapons load out of 6 50 cals and 267rounds per gun. Got a spit, and F6, and a Zero. Spit was a tailshot too :)

Great idea Frenchy - this was just the sort of thing I needed to make me concentrate on something for a period of time :)

Soon as Wilbuz spanked me about 38 times in a row I stopped crying like a baby and started learning instead. We should have a P40E tour next I reckon.

Cheers
