HTC, please check panzer APs
« on: May 10, 2001, 01:13:00 PM »
I feel like fighting against a full armored knight with a wooden stick.

Mission after mission I get same picture, I fire AP's, from different distances to different parts of pnzr's, and time after time I get truks, turrets, but to get kill I need average of 12 AP.

Believe me, to get 15 hits into a pnzr which is running to you just to be killed by him from 100ft is VERY frustrating.

I know that it is not a packet losts. One day I got a spawn point, and fired at the spawning pnzr from extremely close distance, to his 6, with ap. He lost turret EVERY time, never died. I tried every point on this panzer, same result.

It may be some code to compensate my lag, but if it is -- it does not work correctly.

If it is a packet lost, as I understand it, hit should not be regestered. But they are! Enemy hear pings, they are dammaged. But it seems that strength of my APs are down at least to 10-15% of their lethality.

Another thing is that some sortie, (about every 5th) I get kills with 1st-2nd hit, as my enemies usually do.

I know, that pnzr armor code is changed next version, but it seems it may be something beyound it, which for sure needs changing.

If you need a film let me know and I will record my next duel against a panzer.

I haven't conducted controled tests on this, nut I have noticed that when I spawn with just AP ammo, I get must faster kills for hits than when I have both AP and HE loaded.  When using a mixed loadout, it seemd that the AP rounds do less damage.  But like I say, it might just be my preception.  Also, I find that just about anything can disable the turret in my tanks.  That is normaly the first thing I lose.  The armore system is supposed to change with 1.7, so maybe that will change as well.

Don't forget to fuse your rounds before firing.

Not sure if this a lag thing or not. I used to do nothing but drive tanks and sometimes it would take up to 30rds of AP to kill someone.

I've never heard of anything to explain this except lag or hack. I prefer to think its lag.

I've sounded off 'bout this in another thread. Something has changed in the last 2 versions 'cause the hits with no damage are much more numerous these days. I'm with Mighty1 in his hope that it's just lag, but when you hit someone 12+ times it's gotta make you wonder

Hmm thats really wierd Panzer IV 75mm should knock itself out rather easily at very long ranges with a single AP hit especially if firing at the sides. German 75mm AP also had a decent sized time delay fuze HE filler, which was said to be very effective in setting off ammo or killing/wounding the crew after penetrating. There really should be more 1 ping kills in PzIV vs PzIV, this would not have been a slugfest in RL combat.

I have seen the same thing several times.  Most of the time 1 or 2 AP kills but every now and then 10 or more do little or no damage.  Last night I hit an Osti at 2k with 5 AP's - he never stopped firing.  Then he drove off.  Out of AP's, I switched to HE's and hit him 6 more times while he was driving around.  Finally he turned and started firing at me - one ping my turret dead. 11 hits on Osti - he drives off. 1 37mm hit on me - dead turret.

I've had anything between 1 - 30 AP rounds to kill a Pnzr.  The annoying one is when an Ostwind takes more hits than a Pnzr!  I agree that longer range shots do tend to kill with less rounds, BUT I've also noticed that if the defending Pnzr is firing it's MG it seems to take more AP shots?

Somthing very strange is going on with the panzers now. I always load nothing but ap cause I normaly hunt other gv's.I find that I have to pound other tanks and ostwinds with 8 to 10 rnds to get a kill most of the time. The other night I had 8 hits on an osty from 1.6-2.0 and never even slowed him down,a countryman droped a bomb on him and I got the sist, so I know the hits were registering, could be lag, but over and over?

One thing that really bothers me lately is that I have run across a lot of ocassions where incomming main gun rounds from a panzer do not have tracers no matter what range they are shooting from, this I dont think is lag.
