I think my point wasn't clear enough... "safe and sane" applies to the lame bellybutton fireworks.

Your post was perfectly clear. Fireworks = enthusiasm. Now we don't want to offend by being enthusiastic about this country do we????   :p

Nope... you're still not getting it... It's okay... I'm guessing that you're too young to remember how "enthusiastic" fireworks were thirty years ago.

EDIT: Of course... you may also not live in California where the restrictions are far more severe than most states (other than Minnesota).

Sandy,

I got it. You aren't getting it. and BTW I was 20 thirty years ago and I remember them just fine. We also didn't have folks whining about being offended by others being proud of this country and complaining about flags being displayed. Hence the "new PC" stuff we see and hear about now.

That make it clearer????

Perfectly clear... has absolutely nothing to do with my post.

I don't know anyone complaining about flag displays.

Geez, Sandman, I'm not that smart, but even I can see that Maverick was agreeing with you.  Or at least trying to agree with you before you started arguing with him (and by extension, yourself).

I sure hope you treat your friends & allies better in real life...

After reading this, I don't think so. Two different topics... both happen to involve fireworks.

It's not a rule, but generally, it's not agreement when the reply contains: :p

I really miss the big fireworks we had when I was a kid.  we could get anything in Missouri.  if you had property you could even get m-80's from the state (for the exclusive use of keeping deer and such out of your crops I assure you ;) )

but the best where our homemade versions.  unloading rockets and reloading the display.  or modifying 'd' engine model rockets and replacing the recovery system with assorted fireworks and enough loose powder to make sure they where all lit by the chute charge.  or just a big powder charge buried out in the field with an electric detonator so you could set it off at the stroke of midnight.  handled safely (more or less) and set off well away from people or property, it was a lot of fun.

those days have been gone for awhile.  and I know exactly when it changed for me.  the day of the Oklahoma City bombing. I went to the basement and destroyed all my homemade fireworks that day and haven't even made a small firecracker since.  the rules had changed.

the rules had changed forever. no longer where you patriotic when you set-off 1/2 a pound of 'red-dot' in a PVC pipe.  now you'd go on a list of suspected terrorists.  it ruined the whole thing for me, I don't even bother with any fireworks at all anymore.  it's just not the same.
