Ok, I finally found a copy of Uncommon Valor at the local Babbages for $29.99 and installed it (In the back of a rack, and covered in a heavy layer of dust).

No manual, and it looks to be a bear to learn (and I HATE friggin "e-manuals"). Any suggestions or short cuts. Even the "tutorial" is not a tutorial.

Hope it's been patched - I bought it when it came out and the ai sucked - one BIG JP carrier gp with every carrier they had just rolled across the map killing everything in it's patch - might be better with an email opponent - Pacwar by Grigsby was a better game and I still play it today about 10 years after it came out.

There are about 5 patches for the game. Use the True Update of go to the website.

The manual or lack thereof is the one negative about this game. Pring the manual off (it's worth the price of a new cartridge) and then check the UV BB out for other helpful hints and tips.

Verm, you're going to have to bite the bullet on this one and print out the manual and read it, if you want to completely understand the game. I would also take Skernk's suggestions to heart about utilizing the UV BBS. Many helpful folks over there who will answer just about any reasonable question.

Keep running the true update feature until it says you have the latest version of UV. You'll have to run it about five times, as each patch needs to be downloaded and installed sequentually.

While I prefer paper manuals, too, I can see how they wanted to cut costs by doing the manual electronically. Matrix Games is not exactly EA when it comes to resources.

Thanks for the info on the patches. I ran Tru-Update last night once and thought I was done.

How big is the manual? I might print it off at work, but there is not way I'm gonna burn out a $30+ inkjet catridge, on a game that only cost $30 in the first place. Hell, I'll just return the game.

As a kid, I use to be eaten up with the old cardboard watermelon and hex map paper games, but a good manual is a MUST for these kinds of games. And a stinking emanual is just not a substitute.

And the lack of a real tutorial on a game of this type is just stupid. No excuse at all.

I really would love to play. But when my "fun" time is seriously limited, as it is right now, having to "work" at learning a game (more so than is normal for the genre) is a bad bad thing.

Print it in black and white man..you don't need the colour because you should have gotten the chart in the box.

It IS gonna take a while to figure it out...best way is to jump in against the computer and then start asking questions. We're all in this together.

Believe me, Verm, I understand your lack of play time. I was(and still am) in the same time crunch when I first picked up UV. That being said, it would be a shame if you gave up on it just because they put most of the resources into the game design and inplementation, instead of a tutorial or printed manual. To do so would be to deprive yourself of one of the best gaming experiences to have come along in many years.
