Is Swoop or Beetle My New Neighbor?
« on: July 07, 2003, 08:39:55 AM »
I just found out over the weekend that my next door neighbors have sold their house to a couple moving here from England.

So...  Will I end up with a Swoop?  Or, a Beetle?

Man I’m hoping it’s a Swoop, someone I can share the peace pipe with and have a pint or two.  If it’s a Beetle, I can see the property line dispute coming as the land grab will be the only thing that will concern them.

Of course if it’s a land grab, I have firearms.  Bring it on Beetle dweebs! :D

someone would leave the socialist paradise for the mayhem and bigotry of the U.S.?   Well... the burglars will leave your house alone since the limey guy won't be armed.

Yup, they’re the ones that had a fence about 2 feet on my side.

Have chainsaw...  Will cut down wood fence :D.

It went better than that though; it’s hard to argue with a surveyor and a three foot piece of rebar stuck in the ground marking the line.  I compromised on how far the fence went forward on the house.  I pulled it back some so they could still open their gate and get a truck to the back yard.

The house sold for about 10K more than it should have though and was the highest sale amount in the neighborhood.  Good for me but I think they’re being taken advantage of a little knowing that they’re coming from across the pond.

That’s true lazs since people know I’m armed.  I shoot a regular match so I’m continually coming in and out with my rig and I was burning powder on the 4th :D.

ROFL! Yep, you wouldn't want a pint or two with me. Here's what happened when I went drinking with a Yank in San Francisco many years ago:

I had only just relocated to SF, and was staying at the Travelodge which at that time was at Van Ness and Jackson. The bar was kind of boring, and was run by a couple of chink cocktail waitresses. The only record I ever seemed to hear in that place was "Mr. Sandman". So there was this Yank I got talking to. He was a plumber from LA - did the plumbing for those 1-hour film processing machines. And he suggested we went up to Fisherman's Wharf for a drink. We took the 47 trolley bus to the end of the line, and wandered from bar to bar. We were drinking beers and the occasional cocktail. The plumber was really enjoying himself (and who wouldn't be in my company?) but I began to get a very bad feeling when he got up to go to the bathroom, fell over backwards and sent about six chairs flying. I asked him if he was all right, and he said "I feel great" - LOL, right. After another drink or two, I thought he was beginning to look somewhat unsteady, so I suggested we call it a night. Luckily (in light of what came next) he agreed. As soon as we got out on to the street, this guy started swaying about and belching his guts all over the sidewalk. I was trying to hail a taxi, but every time one pulled up, as soon as they realised this plumber guy was with me they pulled away again. Finally one did stop - an older guy was driving - and he said he'd take us back to the Travelodge on one condition: "Do not get sick in my cab". The plumber guy fell into the cab, and the window on his side was already open. I shoved him up against the door with his head sticking out of the window. All the way home, he was making noises like a donkey, barfing every few yards. And when we got back to the hotel, I paid the driver. And as he pulled forward and turned, I could see a huge great dirty brown stain all down the side of his cab. So I took the plumber back to his room and made sure he was going to be OK. But it was only about 10:30. So I went back to the Travelodge bar and had a couple more beers. I realised it was time to leave when Mr. Sandman came on...

...Yanks and drink - LOL

Beetle I’m sure that there is no one in the states that could match your obvious drinking prowess.

Nada Swoop.  The guy, or rather bloke, that is coming is being relocated but I’m not sure what company he works for or what he does.  It is pretty odd since the unemployment rate here is growing since this is Sprints headquarters and we’re continually laying people off.  Not to mention the other industries around the city that are having a few problems.  My group is down to 5 from 11.

Rshubert, I shoot with the Western Missouri Shooters Alliance, more specifically Pioneer Gun club.  They are a private group and not affiliated with the IPSC but run the NRA Action Pistol matches along with Pony Express club.  There are two different groups, basically both are leagues but only one can be a sponsor for NRA points.  The NRA affiliated league requires that you be in law enforcement or sponsored by someone in law enforcement before they will turn in your score cards.  So, with the brief explanation beforehand, I shoot the PPC (Practical Pistol Competition) that’s only a local group.

1200 point match.  12 rounds in 25 seconds at 15 yards, standing no support.  18 rounds in 90 seconds, 6 kneeling, 6 left hand barricade, 6 right hand barricade.  24 rounds in 2 minutes 45 seconds at 50 yards, 6 prone, 6 standing no support, 6 left hand barricade 6 right hand barricade (single or double action at 50 yards).  Then a final 6 at 15 yards in 12 seconds.  Repeat the whole course twice for 120 rounds.

You can shoot with any handgun as long as you reload after 6 rounds and iron sights only.  I think the NRA match is a 1500 point shoot with a few shots taken at 7 yards and not as many at 50.  I rarely shoot it though because it’s an hour away and I’m not good enough to have my scores sent in anyway.  I like beating cops though :D.

I shoot about 1025 out of 1200.  I use a S&W Model 10 .38 that’s had a weighted barrel, trigger stop, and rail system for a scope and 4 preset gun sights at the rear added.  I only wish I could shoot as well as the gun can ;).

They're taught quite young on how to be pompous alcoholics and go on to live in denial at a later date in their lives. ;)

Cops are usually easy to beat, since they shoot because they HAVE TO, not because they WANT TO.  Besides, on those tiny salaries, they can't afford the ammo.

That sounds like a sweet Smith you have there.  I've shot PPC a few times, but the restrictions you noted are the same for me, too.  I have never understood why NRA requires police affliliation to shoot PPC.  Oh, well, it's not a game I like very much, anyway...

I shoot IPSC and IDPA with a Clark-modified colt 1911a1.

Have you shot a lot of Biachi Cup?  That model 10 sounds like a good unit for that game.
