Do NOT try 32bit with Voodoo3
« on: November 20, 1999, 10:28:00 AM »
I've just had to rip AH from my system and reinstall it because I tried 32 bit color mode in AH. You don't have to suffer the same fate.

I know, I know, the Voodoo3 doesn't support 32 bit color, but I wanted to see what happens, nonetheless. I got a diagnal line, two colors, and a strange tornado-shaped graphic. If you can Alt-F4 or Ctrl-Alt-Delete, do so, otherwise you may have to restart your computer up to 4 times (or go to windows safe mode) in order to get windows working again properly.

Simply reinstalling AH does not fix the problem. If you enter AH again, the weird colors and lockup will be there again. You need to remove the offending file(s) and reinstall AH from scratch.

This procedure isn't too bad for a propeller-head computer junkie, but for a casual user it would be nasty. I will post some suggested changes in Graphics bugs section.

So.... If your video card doesn't support 32 bit color in 3D games, don't try it.

OTOH if your card supports 32 bit mode use it

the graphics are outstanding here with TNT2 in 1280*1024 res, hi-res textures.

Solution for 32bit lockup of AH:

Go into the settings directory where Aces High is located and delete the video.cfg file. The next time you start AH, you will be queried about what resolution and color depth you want.

I too have the vodoo3 and I tried the 32bit
and got the wierd graphic thing and locked
but I simply restarted and went to the
aces high folder and used note pad to open
the video config file and edited it back to
16 bit and everything was fine
no need to reinstall here

I have a 3D Blaster Banshee and had the same problems when I put it on 32bit color.  I did find the video.cfg file and changed it back to 16 and it solved the problem.
