Norwalk Virus...I think I had it
« on: July 11, 2003, 12:35:15 PM »
You guys heard of this?

My whole family went down with it like frigging 9 pins.  Last weekend it was the kids, followed by their grandmother followed on Wednesday night by me.  My wife has avoided it somehow to date (touch wood).

You don't want this bad-boy...trust me.

After a large and spicey spagetti dinner on Wednesday night I started feeling funny at about 11.00pm.  I fell asleep at about 11.30pm.  An hour later I made my first trip to the bathroom.  There is nothing quite like the feeling of wiping ones nose after being sick finding your hand touching some spagetti and then pulling said spagetti from ones nose.

It just got worse and worse from there.

At one point I was sitting on the john barfing into a trash can and evacuating into the toilet at the same time.

It lasted about 11 or 12 hours.

Have a nice lunch.:D

It couldn't have been food poisoning.  We all went down at different times and everyone, wife included, ate the same things.

A buddy of mine I spoke to this morning actually had the Norwalk virus 2 weeks ago apparently, he called out of the blue this morning.  When I mentioned what had happened he related a very similar story to mine...although his involved a large steak he had the night he came down with it.  ;)

He had me laughing because he said he didn't have a trash can handy for the old "double evacuation" and had to lean over and puke into the bathtub.

The symptoms and longevity are all exactly the same.  Basically 10-12 hours of hurling followed by two or three days of a very tender stomach.

Feeling much better today, but my poor tummy is in bad shape still.

Sounds quite like the one I had in spring.
I were last one of the three to catch it of the ones I've been to contact with in those days - first uncle had it, then mom had it and then I had it..

Devilish virus, doesn't spare anyone - it just comes later.
I suggest you buy every stuff ready for your wife, if you havent already...

For me, the day began quite normally, but just like said, after eating, some hour or two after I began feeling odd and soon after were visiting the toilet.
Some 4 hours after also began puking, which lasted the whole day.
Everything which I took down the mouth, came also out.. two or three times I took a disperin and soon after I were puking it out.
Also had a light fever.

I don't remember ever been as sick due to stomach related illness.. at night I simply passed out due to exhaustion and slept for a long time.

For the next half week I were like a duracell bunny.
The next day I were awake for over 30 hours and didn't feel a thing, I just thought it might be good to go sleep.
It was quite interesting how active I were the next days, considering I had just been so badly ill I felt like going to hospital.

It took a while for stomach to get normal, but I were already the next day otherwise like nothing.

Lost 3-4kg weight there in a zap and I'm NOT into diets :(

Deseases that can cross the placental barrier and then hurt a fetus are extremely rare. Can't even name one other than listeria that you would not have to go to a lot of trouble to catch.

Anyway, that is the first I hear about it, so congratulations! When is she due? Do you have a name yet? That will be your third, right?

it isn't food poisoning, i've had it twice.

Rule of thumb is as follows:

If it appears that you are pissing via your a____e, + puking, you got it :)
Lasts about a day, in some cases 2.

Curval, don't worry about the wife, she's prabably safe. I had it last time when my baby was 1 month old or so. Was really paranoid about passing it to her and brest-feeding wife - nothing happend. In my house there is also my brother's wife who was pregnant at the time, he had it, 2 of his kids had it, she was spared, same thing.

It's VERY contagious. They call it stomach flu overhere. In my workplace everyone had it at one point or the other. Door handles, mouses, whole 9. Travels like a wildfire.

I was so drunk, I could neither run nor walk to the head to puke and poop, so I did the Curval crawl!

My fight with food poisoning in college was all puking and no squatting.  Couldn't eat anything but applesauce and 7-Up for 3 days.  I don't think Curval had food poisoning.
