Will there be lower usage plans?
« on: September 16, 1999, 07:29:00 AM »
Some folks still balk about the $29.95 a month plan thinking it is a bit pricy.

Now, I am wondering, FOR ALMOST EVERYTHING I HAVE SEEN (Note that is a personal observation and may not be a hard firm fact.) that there is usually some pricing tier structure.

FOR EXAMPLE <------Note: ONLY AN EXAMPLE.

$9.95 for say 10 Hours a Month.

$19.95 for say 20 Hours a Month.

and then the $29.95 unlimited.

THE ABOVE WAS ONLY AN EXAMPLE.

Now HT has announced the $29.95 unlimited, which is fine by me, but what I am wondering is will there be slightly less expensive options available to folks who don't fly as often, or can't afford $29.95?

Tiered pricing has been tried in the past:

"From each according to their ability, to each according to their need."

I love the current pricing schedule.......

Seems like most my post lead to a Flame of some sort.

Just trying to say, I am asking a simple question, no ulterior motive.

Some people read these post, and immediately start thinking its an attack.

I haven't attacked anyone, but I sure feel that I take a beating sometimes.

Now in the Virtual Skies I'm all attack, and that can be costly too, cause I am often dragged for the enjoyment of others.

I agree with pricing tier idea. It would add a lot of casual fliers to the game who are not rich addicts like us!!! We need a broad base of pilots to make AH a long term success. Please rethink this Hi-Tech.

I agree 100% with Flacke/Downtown.

When the first "hot love" have cooled down after 3-4 months or so, you are just not interested in spending that much money for so little time. (maybe you spend 10 hours or so each month).

My guess is that we will have a "Downtown payment" pretty soon, because you can only gain from it, there is nothing to lose. This "everything or nothing" 30 US$/month will only make those with a lot of spear time happy, while it will completely let out the casual players.

Well gents, gotta say that the tiered pricing system is a thing I do not support.  Why?  I'll tell you.  I swap nighshift for dayshift on a weekly basis, and when I work nightshift and get off, there is nothing to do.  I can tear through the platinum plan like .50 cals through a zeke, and believe me, I do just that!  I'd rather face a pack of 190's with a hang glider and a bolt action rifle than have my wife tear the still-smoking visa bill out of my shaking palm.  Add to that my beer bill, and you get the picture.  I am speaking only for myself here, but I'm sure many can identify with this scene.

Downtown I was talking about the Discliamer, the post was a good question. I was being sarcastic, but on the lighter side. That was in noway intended to be a flame.

Indian, didn't think it was a flame, not bothered by it, just explaining that I post sometime, and take quite a thumping for it.

(And I think I make pretty inocuous posts)

My Idea of the Tiered Pricing was along the lines of $9.95 for say 10 hours a month.

$19.95 for 20 Hours a month, and
$29.95 for the unlimited plan.

I don't believe I will have a problem flying more than more that 20 hours a month (compared to the other sim.)

SOme months I work so much I won't have time to fly at all.

SOme times I work shifts.

I would be an unlimited member for this price, pretty much regardless.  I was wondering about the option for others who knew they wouldn't or couldn't fly that much, or couldn't afford $29.95.

Hmm..Not a bad idea in general, kinda like: Test it at $10.95/$19.95 limited first, if you like it and wanna fly more often upgrade to $29.95 flat.

Problem is: As it is now with a flat rate, there's no need for HTC to implement code that keeps track of a player's online time for billing purposes.
Wouldn t a second, limited option mean more hassle for them on a technical level? I don't know how such a system works so I can t tell if it's that big a deal to implement, but I would imagine that it is.

Looks like

While I wish there would be a tiered plan, I understand their way too.. KISS.

Easiest way to go.. and I know for 1, that I will be flying a lot more than 30 hours a month. I generally fly somewhere around 50-60  hours a month, and sometimes, though a lot more rare now, I'll spend 24-30 hours in just 1 weekend.

Oh, to fly 20+ hours on a weekend.

I waited a whole month in WB until my time was gonna role over, and then flew the last day to the first.

Used up a lot of hours, but MAN it was nice, if only my connections had been better.
