And Interface - which makes you wonder about Dubya.

And Snow Crash - although it's a bit weaker - if only because the hero/protaganist is called Hiro Protaganist. :D

Big U is quite funny too - though I never went to a US college so I can't comment on how satirical it is.

The Diamond Age is pretty good for those who enjoy Alan Moore and his verging-on-unhealthy obsession with Victoriana, and also like Big Billy Gibson's cybertechfetish.

Neal Stephenson is good.

He never had a stroke did he?  :)

I guess I like Cryptonomicon the most because of the WW2 stuff.  Stephenson is obviously a military history nerd among other things.  He didn't miss too many details.

Noo no stroke - but he did do that disappearing act way back when and, apparently, god tells him to do stuff. ;) Just kidding: Dubya didn't win enough votes and is too lousy an off-the-cuff speaker to be a contender. He might make it as Mr Scatflinger, though :D

Stephenson seems to know a lot about all sorts of stuff - but the most important bit is that he writes it well - it's engaging and believable.

I liked Snow Crash even if  it felt  unfinished.

Cryptonomicon is a classic though.
