Heya gents, will windows 98 run reliably in the 2.5 gig range, as in a P4 2.5gig with the 800mhz bus? I need to know for a potential upgrade project, thks

It should run with no problems but you'll only be limited to a maximum of 512megs of RAM. It will recognize more but only use 512 megs.

Hey Bockko, I had all kinds of problems trying to get my new 2.4 to run on 98. You can do it, but it will be a pain. I had all kinds of driver problems, 98 just doesn't know what to do with the new technology. Finally broke down and picked me up XP.

Never did get things to run %100 with 98. Especially had problems running AH, my frame rate sucked, I had sound problems and it took 3 hours to get my USB2 stuff going. After XP, AH ran as smooth as a baby's bottom!

ouch, sounds like a pain! I saw xp on googlegear.com for 90$ if you buy a cpu with it. I have been hearing good things about xp so perhaps I should just bite the bullet. I have been running 2k on my main system but the setup is HP so no discs, only recovery discs. Of course, still have win 98 paid for:eek: but don't need headaches!
