You and me both, Oz.    Granted, we don't have the pea-shooter 7mm MGs like the Ju, but man...the C-47 just looks so much nicer.

i have spoken to at least one vet who said that they carried any gun they could in c 47 and in the pacific theater he shot tommy guns at niponese aircraft several times. hes dead now so i cant ask him  if it was out the back door or if the poked a hole in the back, but he said zekes were a rare sight where he was mostly it was lightly armed recon planes that would try to down a c47 knowing that they were unarmed 3 guys in the back with tommys would usualy scare um off.

anyone else hear this sort of story?

and if it was a normal thing (they had crew and a 45 cal slug is a squeak if it hits. it is a slow (900 fps) but the rate of fire is astounding.


and i believe in aw now c47s have a tail door gunner so there is a precedent.

i can see the debate now on colt automatic pistol cal .45 leathality hehe.

I say at least put a guy in the rear door with a BAR or something higher caliber but still portable
