Ditch smaller map time?
« on: July 18, 2003, 06:05:45 AM »
Maybe we should should have the 3 big maps on rotation, maybe its just me but we seem to have outgrown the small maps, too hard to plan decent noe missions due to the numbers playin, too hard to get decent alt in a buff before someone pounces on you, seems like ages we have to wait now untill one of the big maps comes back round again,Id prefer we stuck to the big maps, the small ones have had their day.:)

some of the best fights have happened on the mindy map.   I think those not playing in prime time find the big maps a little too large too.

I think the person writing as Lazs2 (above) is an imposter, as the word "timid" did not appear in the post. :D;)

Well, it would be nice to see a game that everyone enjoys, but speaking subjectively, I have to agree with the title of this thread. Get more than 200 online (small map) and it's not much fun for some, but it's a dweeb's paradise. I logged off the other night when the numbers reached 269.

I do enjoy the big maps more - even the Pizza map with only 60 people present is not devoid of action. But you won't see anything like the amount of steamrollering, fuel porking hordes. I'm sorry the Pizza map is disliked by so many. I love it!

It is irritating to day after day log on to your radar being down because your strats are where any 1/2 conscious trained monkey can get to.  Not to say size is the only answer, but on larger maps this isn't an issue.

I agee with you JOC with one exception.
I have to agree with Laz on the Mindy map. Mindy seems to hold up well under the different wants and choices of gameplay for most. It seems to have a little of everything for everyone without stepping on too many toes. The other small maps have seen their time and have been outgrown IMHO.

I disagree - the small maps are my favorite.  Easy on the eyes and I dont have to sift through 300 fields to find my squaddies when I log on.

I really never saw the problem to begin with - larger maps are nice, but the planet-sized terrains we have now are toooooo big.

IMO, all you have to do to avoid the furball trains is fly from one field back.

I love the small maps, you can always find a nice fight.  Sure they get crowded,  but I think that's a good thing.  :)

yep... the only real problem with the small maps is that it is too easy for the insect hordes to pork resources.

I have to also agree with Lazs.  Seems everyone can more easily get their favorite gameplay on a map like Mindy.  If you want to furball, 44 is almost always hot.

If you want to bomb strats, well then take off from your coastline to achieve alt.

Saur, just go to the clipboard listing all the players names that are online, highlight the squaddie you are looking for and click the "GoTo" button at bottom left somewhere and that'll take you to the field he took off from.  Arrange names by squadron and you don't have to kill your eyes searching the map.

I disagree.  You can run good missions on the small maps no problem.  Some of the best missions I've flown happened last night.  You can't tell me for one second that you can't get a buff formation to altitude without getting jumped.  We took 7 formations of Ki67s to 15k and leveled and airfield, zero opposition.  The trick is you take off from a field in the rear, not a field that is about to be overrun or generating a furball.

Also remember a Mossie mission to take a field last night also.  Very successful, very fun.

Small maps will get porked quickly but they also get reset quickly.  Countries simply have to adjust their tactics (I say that loosely) for the size of the map.  You might have to move quicker to defend the HQ.

Personally I like the variety, large small maps, keeps things interesting and moving.....

Wow!! Complaining about having to actually contend with other players.  Damn, and here I thought that was the whole point.

The small maps are vastly superior.

...and that is because (insert drum roll here) the maps are too small. :)
